Group Changes

So, as I am sure you have all noticed, ArtistInWaiting and I have not been on the group lately...

The story is this. I am going through quite a lot of personal issues, and currently don't have the time (or means) to uphold my position with the mis-faves.  I am currently not living at home, and aside from work, I do not have means to get to the site.  I had alerted ArtistInWaiting of this, and she politely responded that she is stepping down as admin of UF.

So, as it stands, it seems that the group is having a bit of a crisis.  I can understand ArtistInWaiting's reasons for stepping down; and they make quite a lot of sense to me.  The group has been slowly going down hill for quite some time.  No participation in contests, and aside from making submissions; there is no activity from the members.  It has become quite a frustrating task to try to keep this group above water for both myself and ArtistInWaiting.

Essentially, we are actively looking for new staff.  What we really need is someone who is passionate about the program, and has the time (and energy) to pour into this group to get it back to its full potential.  I do not have this passion, as I haven't cracked open UF in months. I was acting as a behind the scenes helper of sorts, to get some of the work load off of ArtistInWaiting's shoulders.

With that in mind, we will also be needing staff to help with the submissions, as well as the gargantuan mis-fave issue.  It is quite dis-heartening to be in charge of alerting fellow dA'ers to thier group favorites, and have no action taken by them in return.  There are quite a few repeat offenders; who not only refuse to retract thier favorite and give it to the original deviation, but continue to pile favorites on top of the ones they previously had.

The problem is, is that no matter how much we ask for these mis-favorites to be corrected, 85% of those who are doing them, refuse to fix them, and most of them continue to add to thier group favorites.  This is no longer a problem that can be cured behind the scenes.  I encourage each and every one of you to take a look at your submissions, and take a look at the amount of favorites received, and (if you so desire) do something about them.  My thoughts are that if the dA members see and hear from the actual artist; they may be more willing to remove the group favorites, and visit your gallery's personally.

On that note, my time online is soon running out.  If you are interested in helping with the group in any way, please contact ArtistInWaiting and I personally.

Hopefully, in the end, we can get this group back up and running like it should.

Sincerely,
erthbndangl

 Greeting UF admin's. I am new to Ultra Fractal and still fairly new to dA. However, I would  to help keep this community going in any way you need my help in. Just let me know either here or through a note how I can help.
Sincerely,
Kitty Ann :frail:

As someone who has been a member of this group for four years, since almost the very beginning (seriously; I entered in the second ever contest) this post saddens me greatly.

And yet I feel like we members, myself included, have only ourselves to blame. I haven't been participating in contests. I haven't put in my time to help out. At this point, I can barely keep my own dA gallery active, let alone a group. So what right do I have to piss and moan about this discouraging piece of news?

I want to help out. I really do. I know that right now I do not have the time. I'm worried that even if I did have the time, I would do a crappy job and the group would be left worse off. But I do have an offer for you.

My Christmas break starts on Dec. 13th and is approximately five weeks long. If you still have no one to take over the reins by that time, I can try to do it for those five weeks only, and hopefully leave enough of an "infrastructure" in my wake that when I have to go back to school, the group can continue on. I can't promise success, but I can promise I will try. Honestly, I hope it doesn't come down to this-- I hope you guys find someone to help out much sooner than Dec. 13th. But if not, I will volunteer as a TEMPORARY (let me once again emphasize that I can only do this for the five weeks that I am not at school) admin and try to jumpstart things.

My thought it is quite ridiculous for there not to be a computerised system which identifies who is a member of the UF Group and to automatically insert their pictures in the sub-gallery. It might necessitate the member indicating it is a UF image for the system to do the necessary, but this would in one fell swoop reduce the administration requirements.
You could go further and enable anyone who submits such a UF designated picture to automatically become a member. You might have to classify some as beginners etc "Beginner needing help" might be a useful category as it would alert others to give useful comments.
It is silly to have precious volunteers constantly doing dreary work. The group is far too small for this.

Cliff.

I can't agree with you more! The favoriting issue can only be resolved by the staffers...

Hopefully they are working on some kind of implementation for groups.

God I wish I could do more but I am lucky to get the few minutes I can now. I really hope that someone will be able to help out. Have you guys considered that those who continuously do it should be removed from the list? I mean they did join the list and agreed to the rules/guidelines in the beginning. If they cannot be adult enough to read the comments posted with the image... then they do not need to be in the group. I don't think that sounds harsh because this is afterall something that you do for the community. You may lose a member or 2 but people will learn and maybe you or anyone else won't have to work as hard. Just my opinion. :D

Not only group members can favorite. Anyone on dA can...and even if we blocked those who didn't listen; more would replace them... =\

When then I guess it's not such a good idea. lol The admins really need to do something about it. Maybe this could help, if you get together with other club owners and several of you go to admin at 1 time they would be more willing to do something about it. I'm just thinking about ways to help! :D

Thanks for the suggestions! :) I'm not really an admin though...and I think right now what we need to focus on is getting an admin back for UF, and then worry about the mis-faving.

It'll be the inaugural task for our new admin so to speak... ;P

I really couldn't tell you what the admin does. I took care of all the mis-faves for Michele.

If you keep up on them, it only takes about 20-45 minutes a week max once you get the hang of it...I've just not been able to get on in quite some weeks because of personal issues so they are running really behind.

The submissions on the other hand take a little more time. Maybe 1-3 hours a week tops?

If you want info on Admin you can contact Michele directly at =ArtistInWaiting she can tell you the admin duties. :)

I'm sure that if you are really willing to help, Michele and I could find the perfect job for you. :)

Taking care of the club doesn't require experience in UF. Why don't you note Michele [=ArtistInWaiting] and see what she says? :aww:

Honestly, you don't have to.

This problem with people faving pictures featured here instead of faving those in an artist's gallery seems like a problem the administration of dA should fix:

For example, they could define a new style of submission for groups, features, forums, etc- where artists and their work can be seen, but to mark as a favorite, download, or do anything other than look at it, they are directed back to the artist's submission instead...

of even making a group submission a link to the artist's work on their page, instead of a whole new copy of the work...

maybe something to ask them upper ups?

I completely agree with you. I, however, wouldn't have the first idea as to who to contact. Quite a lot of the gallery directors [^Sophquest included] are well aware to the dilema...I think it is a matter of priority with the staffers. I'm sure that the concern has been made to them, and its now an issue of prioritization...

and no one knows how long that could take....
