Kyra 03: Foundations

Skidding around a corner, Kyra ran down the street, her long, blood-red hair trailing out behind her like a chaotic banner; save for the two locks that hung in front of her face.  Those two locks lay along the bridge of her nose, curling to the left till they touched a point under her left eye. She soon learned why it's dangerous to run through the streets of Navik in the dark. It is not because of criminals, though there were a few of those lurking about, but because of the obstacles in the street cloaked by darkness. With a surprised yalp she tripped over an empty crate, probably thrown off the back of a supply wagon as it lumbered down the busy daytime street.  While attempting to gracefully tumble out of that fall, Kyra smacked into another crate. As Kyra lay there stunned, the large guardswoman who had chased her for the past five blocks came clattering around the corner. The hobnails on her boots clanging off the stones, the black leather armored guardswoman charged at the

Careening around the corner, Kyra sprinted recklessly down the cluttered alley. Behind her, she heard the shrill echo of the Navik Guardsman's whistle. Ducking behind a crate to catch her breath, she brushed back her blood red hair, and tried hyperventilating as quietly as possible. Why were the gods being so unfair to her? First the troupe abandoned her in Navik so they could go across the waters. How they could do this to her after the years they had spent traveling the lands together? It wasn't as if she could conquer her fear of boats and open water as easily as changing clothes. Then, she discovered lousy crowds who didn't want to see a lone performer, unless she danced wearing next to nothing. That had forced her to take a job as a serving wench, it did. Now, the first time she tries her hand at a little breaking and entering she's attacked by dogs. One of the brutes even had the audacity to bite her, and a ward had blown up in her face. That ward not only summoned the Navik
