Description

The wise and beautiful queen of the island known as Vermin Paradise... or at least, she once was. Now her legacy is told in legends as the Mzichi that fell in love with a human and died as she paid the price for love. That is how the story goes in a nutshell, but few people know the full story and of what happened afterwards.
Born on the island known as Vermin Paradise, Lahkiri was one of many queens who ruled over the island for many generations. She is part of a species of insectoids called the Mzichi, native to the world of Fandus and is said to be miles from the two continents of Sandarman and Amberdanse. With the island perpetually obscured in thick magical fog, no outsider can get in or find a way to penetrate the fog's magical force. So long as Lahkiri was queen and was well advised by her most trusted associates, no one was ever allowed to leave the island. In fact, Lahkiri seemed to have ruled the island with an iron fist and tyranny, but that may not be the case as when she met the human Oren, she confessed that she never really was a tyrant. She didn't even know how badly she treated everyone, including the humans and other fair folk who were slaves to her on this island. She simply lived a life of ignorance and believed her race were superior while all others were threats to their existence. How wrong she was and Oren showed her the path to redemption and understanding. At least that what it appeared to be.
The story goes is that Oren took a liking to Lahkiri for some reason and wanted to date her, get to know her and the Mzichi way of life. She was flattered, though skeptical at first, but she came to admire Oren's curiosity and offered said date, but out of mutuality, not romantically. The first time went so well that they decided to go on another, and another and another. The more they spent time together the more they came to understand the beauty behind the lies told by their races. For Lahkiri in particular, she saw the deep compassion in humans and their way of life, and realised they were not a threat. In fact, humans were not so different to Mzichi in terms of their free will and their similar ideals and wants socialisation. It was then that Lahkiri felt true, genuine love for Oren, as did Oren felt for Lahkiri. As they kissed under the moonlight at the Voldan's Cliff, they confessed their love for each other. However, such love was only a ruse. It turns out Oren's affection for Lahkiri was simply a way to spy on her and to distract her and the Mzichi for the islander's revolt against their oppressors the Mzichi. That was the plan, but Oren did felt genuine feelings for her, but Lahkiri was too heartbroken to understand after this revelation and thus the two broke apart. She spent the next two days in solum and sadness, her heart torn by the lie of Oren. Her people decided to go to war against the islanders with or without the queen's demand. Oren decided to make things right and went to find Lahkiri. In the hopes she would understand, Oren quietly admitted to her that it was wrong of him to deceive her and that she had every right to feel betrayed, despite having genuine feelings for her and making her feel special. He then left her to her thoughts and she learned something valuable: Oren did not come to make an excuse, he came to admit and show that he was flawed and deceitful, just like her race. He was not so different from what her people did to them, and yet he had the courage to admit that. He came to make things right not for validation, but for love. And that sparked her to forgive him.

She chased after him and saw the battle below and she managed to use her queenly ways to stop the battle. She made a big emotional speech about how her people can and should live in harmony with the islanders. Believing that together they can be something than what they original thought, and that ended the conflict. However, just before she could forgive Oren and say to him that she loved him, Lahkiri was suddenly betrayed by her advisor, Kazz the Spider Conjurer. He was angered by his whole entire plans being ruined by her and thus he decided to end her, splitting her in two from the waist in front of everyone. Despite his best efforts to defend himself, Kazz was eventually killed for his treachery and though peace was eventually made, it was at a grave cost. Lahkiri was presumed dead, her (seemingly) lifeless torso was given to Oren who decided to carry her to the shore, take the last and only boat and sail as far away from the island as possible. He did not go alone, a Lahkiri's two silk beetle larvae twins accompanied her. Both the Mzichi and the islanders watched in great sorrow and mournful despair as they watched the two lovers sail off into the mist, not knowing where their fate was to be.

Some say that just before Oren, the larvae twins and Lahkiri's lifeless body disappeared into the veiled mist, they saw the hand of their queen slowly and lovingly grasping Oren's shirt. She was still alive...
