Well - you could commission one but silver prices have gone up these days and sending something to america is relatively expensive as well. Still - it was a lovely pair of *brooches - a wedding gift to be more precice

Maybe one of these days I can commission one when I have more money. It would be totally worth it though :) Great job!

Are they actually practical? Like does the needle swing out and then latch? Or are they simply ornamental?

They're very pretty regardless.

Yes they are very practical. The needle is designed to freely rotate and go through the narrow pass of the brooch. Tp be used you push the needle through the garment (garments if you want to hold two things togerher) and then move the needle throuh the brooch so the clothing pulls them together when worn. Its pretty hazy description.

Heres a pic how its attached to the garment [link]

I make a lot of historically accurate clothing (none of which is on my dev account), and in the eighth century to the fourteenth this type of brooch was popular (along with another kind I have problems finding), but I have incredible issues finding replicas that are practical and not just decorative. Do you sell these?

Heh - its more like a hobby and this pair was actually a wedding gift for a couple of historians. Technically i could make some and sell but silver jewelry isn't exactly cheap. I could make some on commission or recommend some casters i know who make good historical replicas. Transport might be a problem since you live in Canada?

Silver is most definitely not necessary. I would be willing to commission some and pay for shipping if you're up for it. If not, if you know some casters who are closer by I'd be happy to contact them.

Very Sexy and very Norse. Silver is my all time fav to wear, and I too wish I had more to work with. Very very nice penannulars.
