Poster done for Beater's Competitive Matchmaking Challenge hosted on TF2Maps in December 13th - March 16th. The contest was held with the purpose to create the best possible map for 6v6 KoTH or 5CP with a cash prize pool of €200 and a SVIFT hoodie, and
15 strong entries submitted over the course of the competition with playtesting and streamed map cups. The best of those 15 maps are going to be further playtested on services such as PugChamp, several more streams, and one more 6v6 tournament before deciding a winner - which, other than the prizes, would be added to the ETF2L map rotation to add diversity as well as freshness to the map pool as well as the 6v6 meta, with a sense of familiarity for the game mode.
For the poster's concept, I liked the idea of Soldier focusing very intently while setting things up, with references to maps in the 6v6 rotation such as Badlands' spires and overall gameplay layout, Granary's crates, and Sunshine's lighthouses. While I've never dabbled in Hammer or level design myself, I can only imagine this is what they're like when plotting things out. Also, I've definitely had to scenebuild bigger scenes so I understand what that's like, and this meta of scenebuilding a scenebuild for a poster is no exception.
Additionally, rock005.mdl makes a cameo. The Challenge Thread: tf2maps.net/threads/meet-your-…
