Country road

Ran and Chen Yakumo from Touhou Project game series.

I've started to draw this experimental pic to try some custom brushes for nature objects. Experiment was succesful for the most of specimens, I dare to say.

this is amazing
do you have any tips for landscapes? I really want to draw sceneries like this but everytime I draw looks so... weird or maybe is because I never leave my room, lol

Thank you.
Unfortunately, I don't know entire theory of landscapes, only basics.
But since you wish it, I'll give you several separate tips.

- Use the brush that mix picked color with background colors and 'stretch' this mix. Such brush is useful for water, clouds, soil, plants, characters, i.e. almost for everything. I do 92% of work using it. I have know idea how create it in Photoshop, but I can explain how to create it in Painter.

- Landscape without depth doesn't look good. To bring it into picture, use air perspective, objects overlapping, decrease of size of similar objects and foreground.

- Air perspective. Because vast masses of air are placed between us and far objects, those objects become less contrast and detailed and more blurred. Dark objects become lighter, light objects - darker a bit. To show it properly, mix the color of the objects with the color of the sky. For example, add some blue and yellow into far mountains at midday and red or purple at evening. Try not to use filters to make blur, it is better do it with brush.

- Overlapping. If you want to draw advancing tanks, don't draw them in line. Place one somewhat behind another. It looks '20% cooler'.

- Decrease of size od similar objects. It helps to set the scale. If you draw a forest, place one spruce near, another one - farther and others - even more far. Watcher know the scale of real spruce, and he'll get the feeling of distance.

- Foreground. Placing little objects in the foreground will bring extra depth into picture. Make them darker to contrast with the rest of the pic, but don't do them in focus (if you don't plan it, of course).

- I love the solitude too, but it is necessary to move sometimes. If circumstances let me it, I take some food and water, leave the town and walk into wastelands. It helps to find new sceneries and make photos of the clouds.

Hope it helps you.

thank you so much for the tips, is helping me a lot! especially the part to mix with the color of the sky, it's a great technique, also now everything looks more clear to me when I observe your art again.

uh,maybe I should leave my town sometimes to get some inspiration, though here is not so pretty and I am kinda anemic.
