Chunar Horse by tyreenya Chunar Horse by tyreenya
This was my entry for the diorama contest at Breyerfest 2017. Sadly, it did not place, but that's ok because I like it anyway!

If you think you've seen something similar to this before, you are correct!  This was modeled off of a Chunar horse sculpture (google it!), which originated in Chunar, India. The civilization was known for their pottery works, especially animals, with intricate designs.  They also used a glaze that was made from the dirt of their rice fields, which gave it that sort of semi-shiney look.

This started off as a Breyer Marwari horse, and has had some legs repositioned to better capture the original pose of the Terra-cotta version. Yes, there are holes in this horse (like its counterpart!), so you can see bits and pieces through it. The vines, leaves and other bits were hand sculpted onto the model, and then painted with acrylic paints (those cheap craft store kind!).  The base is just made out of some wood that I had lying about.

This horse is currently not for sale, unless I get an offer I cannot refuse.
