Here's part one Child of Dragons - General Wraathar

Wraathar believes he and his people are destined for something more than just conquering mountains and raiding villagers. He wants to leave his mark on the world for all to see and fear and to show he and his race aren't mindless killers, but conquers.

Other than their appearance and physicality what makes mountain elves so intimidating are their threats which are not all talk. If some idiot says "I'll carve your lungs out" a mountain elf will act on the said threat instead of 'saying' it.
