Looking back at the art I did this year I have a lot of mixed feelings. I'm glad I was able to do at least one piece a month (some months I got more done) and I'm glad I got to experiment a little and went back and done some just classic fanart pieces just for the fun of it.
However, I'm not sure how I feel about each of the pieces overall. Some of them I still feel strong about and others not so much. I know that's a common artist problem but I still wonder if it hits me harder because I feel I don't have a definite "style". Heck, even in the last few images I did since they were anime fanart pieces I pretty much tried to keep the look of them like the original works. I felt like if I tried to do them in "my style" they wouldn't turn out right because I don't know what "my style" is.
I've been lowkey unhappy with each piece I've done. I mean, I'm glad I'm doing work, and the more practice I get in and the more study pieces I do the better. Even just doing a silly chibi image that I make stickers from is at least still doing something and using my skills. In the long run, I think a lot of it boils down to that I'm scared. Scared of being stuck in a rut, scared of failing, scared of not finding "me" (heh, not sure if that makes sense). I apologize for my art being all over the place this year and I'm hoping in 2025 I can be more consistent.
So yeah, I guess that sums it up. Sorry for the rant but I had to get that off my chest. I'm not giving up and I'm still pushing forward, I just feel like I'm taking a lot of long winding back roads to get where I need to go. I know, I know, enjoy the journey but after so long your butt gets sore 😅
