(This is a draft of part of a chapter in book 5 of the Tower Book series) "What in the seven hells am I seeing here, ship?" The scout was sliding down the atmosphere of the system's fourth planet, a rocky one with, as the ship had said, clear signs of bearing life if not technology. Of course, the ship had a vastly wider definition of life than its commander. There was nothing green here. But there was a lot of blue, bright teal, and definitely spectacular views. Commanding the landscape was an immense plateau centered on a clear, mirror-blue expanse, like a highland sea covered with drifting, skimming white clouds, the only ones on sight. The sea ran over the limits of the plateau in several places, in kilometer-wide and kilometer-high falls that fell like plumes and seemed to dissolve before reaching a lowland ocean. The shores were shockingly red and visibly complex even from this height. And where the terminator line hit it... the sea glowed, blue and white and ghostly
