Outside, the lord had a tournament in the making, already the sound of minstrels drifted on the air and people placing down fences and firing up roasts for foreign guests to soon visit. Buck saw none of that, except glimpses through the slits in the top of the dungeon walls. In spite of the lord granting the duty of handling his dragon to Buck, Dalken had been enraged at the cleaning having been less than completed, and had been savage with the wooden rod on Buck's back. It stung, and the swelling made work harder but still he had to work instead of join in the festivities outside.
There had been no talk about lessening his duties to be with the dragon, Dalken would hear none of that! In fact, part of his rage seemed to stem from the lord not sharing his complete disdain for him, and thus he took it out on him in any way he could. Extra duties, beatings.
