This picture was probably a bad idea. Ah well. Scene from Elantris by Brandon Sanderson, something like five hours in PS.

Stop doing fanart from books I've never read. ;_;

This was only five hours? Damn. You sure made it look like you spent more time on it! The brick work especially is very awesome looking. You know how to work with grayscale too, everything is defined and...uh, contrasty. (Firefox claims that is a word fo sho) That figure on the wall looks particularly ominous nom nom tiems?

For not having time to sleep you sure do have time to paint. XD

I highly suggest every book I've done fanart for. XD

Thanks :3 Yes, I wanted it a little creepy. It's ominous but then they find out it's actually a benign entity, so it's cool.

This is actually a homework assignment XD But yeah, I'm pretty thrilled my prof okayed this as an extended project, not sure if she's gonna dig the digital, though....

when I do this grayscale stuff, I pretty much emulate the traditional charcoal techniques---I start with a midtone value all over, then I paint in the dark shapes, then I gradually darken the darks and lighten the lights as I paint detail into the shapes, so the fact that I have this sort of process ties it a bit to traditional media? That is totally what I will say, anyway. XD

I figured. XD

Oooooooohhh. You didn't say that in the artist comments. XD What class?

That makes sense, I've never really tried to do a straight b&w digital thing before, emulating charcoal sounds smart.

Drawing class, actually---it's like a big continuous out of class thing, and it's open medium, which is really neat. So some kids are doing paint, some are doing digital, others are doing straight up drawings. :)

Oh that's cool! Are in like a general advanced drawing class or something?

Yep! Most of the students are illustration students, I think, the class number is required for us.
