The Black Bird
In many traditional beliefs on the human soul, it is said that upon death one doesn’t travel to a good or bad afterlife but is instead born again as another.
“Another” could be anything, maybe not even human. It has been this way since time began.
Such was to the new arrival. Her name was Jen Mitchell. 30 years old, a promising painter struck by a car.
“Where…” she thought as she glanced above to the sky. The black bird watched from high and away. It’s nearly half molted body and blue eyes stuck out. It tilted its head.
“I know you” Jen extended her arm to the bird. It recoiled and took flight!
“Come back!” She yelled with an echo. It was then she noticed the area around herself.
It was one of her paintings. An endless field on a mild spring afternoon. Not a cloud in the sky.
Truthfully she didn’t know where she was going. The sound of the bird bounced around.
She had to trust her instincts. Why is it so shy? In life Jen loved animals.
