Naatre - Keeper's Lament
I chalked the circle, salted every door
Counted out the months upon the cold stone floor
A locked house in the rain, no road that leads away
The boy is in the silence, and the silence calls his name
Seven years I had him, then the world went white
A coat too small to bury, and a candle I can't light
They took him for no reason; I've nothing left to hold
So I brought my grief here frozen, and I kept it hard and cold
You said the work is long, you said the work is cruel
Drink the blood, endure the night, obey the bitter rule
I came here armed with hate, a debt I meant to claim
But the chalk lines all run crooked when the heart won't speak its name
He said, "The angel comes, but it does not come for free -
Endure the dark, endure me, then endure what you will see
When it's done I'll ask for silence, to be no one, nowhere found
Just some quiet before the howl, some peace before the sound"
Sing it low, sing it dark, sing it through the wall
Every saint and every wound, I am keeping
