The Blade of Kryssia
The air was foul, with a reptilian reek. Smoke from burning power cables made vision difficult, as well as irritating the lungs. The steel deck slanted, then lurched, from an explosion aft.
A hit on the ship, perhaps. Or a secondary explosion. Or something else.
A whistling sound could be heard. This was from the air pouring through holes in the hull into the void outside; holes made by off target shots, which then punched through the hull.
This was bad; smoky air was not good, yet infinitely better than no air at all.
Bodies lay scattered about, both Gozari and Firstborn. Some were torn by claws or teeth; others by solid projectiles. A Gozari officer lay nigh headless, slain by her blade. Tavon viewed the corpse with satisfaction. It had been a good and worthy kill. That officer had been skilled.
Tavon moved to the punctured hull section. Her hands moved over it. Energy flowed from her to the hull, which then flexed, sealing the holes from shot.
