EDIT1: Playing around as I complete the parts.
EDIT2: About 90% complete! All that's left are the feet and head. Then I can start working on the outer armor design.
EDIT3: Progress! 100% complete with the inner frame. I have moved on to the outer frame! Here's a shot of the outer and inner, with the two overlapped.
EDIT4: Started work on other parts. Arms are for the most part complete, started on the thighs and also finished the unit's thruster-laden backpack.

It's that time of the year where I randomly decide to start building a new from-scratch mecha, rather than building based off of the Frame Crash or Gundam templates I've made. Much like the Bracer, I'm trying to go all out in detail! I'm starting from the inner frame, and adding external armor and parts to this one, because I can't help but want to make inner frames for all my extensive projects, :)

I've gone a bit lazy with the decals, in a sense. With the Bracer I realized if I used actual words, once the arms and legs are flipped it's a hassle to flip the words as well but I did it anyways. So instead I went with lines instead of words... which kind of look like words from a distance! Really helps make the inner frame pop, in my opinion. This one also has a cockpit, which is located in the chest. The external armor and head section will actually rotate upwards to reveal the cockpit.

The proportions of this mecha probably will not match up to human proportions, which is fine. I'm trying to make something more original, not bound by the Gundam design philosophy I typically follow. On that note, the unit is built to be fairly flexible. It can bend its torso left, right and forward by a good 30° and backwards by 90°, and I'm trying to retain this with the external armor parts included. The arms also have a bit more human rotation, though the shoulder joint design where the arm connects to the shoulder is not final. I might turn the peg going into the arm into another ball joint, depending on how I can roll with it.

The name of this type of mecha is known as an Armastella, which you can pretty much translate into Star Weapon. It is descended from a type of mecha typically referred to as a Combat Shell.

Suffice to say, this is the progress so far! Can't wait til' I finish the whole inner frame and get to start designing the exterior, :). Would love commentary/feedback on the progress!

i will stare at this for an hour. and trying to figure out how to make this on 3d, pretty tricky

Cool design, I do like the overall shape and attention to details. However, the gap between the chest and stomach armor elements is somewhat disturbing, since it lives the most critical section of the mecha exposed. Maybe some sort of overlaping armor will do the trick?

I'll see what I can do with that. I left it that way cause' the torso can lean forward at least 15 degrees, but I'll see if I can make some armor to overlap it while taking those 15 degrees into consideration.

I can see why you`ve done that, and admire your effort to allow the better freedom of movement for your mech. However, the problem exists and that is a challenge to overcome it :)

An alternative to the previous chest armor. Knocked out the chest CIWS, but those can be moved elsewhere later. cdn.discordapp.com/attachments…

Hm... that one is definitely better protection-wise. The chest isn`t supposed to rotate around front-back axis, or around vertical axis in the upper joint? If not, the last one seems to be just ok.
Also, just for inspiration purpose:

Note the knee armor design and air intake location. Something, that no Gundam did right, as far as I remember.

Unit's all kinds of limber.

This is an early screenshot prior to a change in shape to the torso, but flexibility is pretty much the same, lol.

Pretty much impressive flexibility.

I really wish you best of luck TurinuZ!
I may not fully mastered sketchup for random different complex shapes, but thankfully I learned Blender to make up for it :D
