Description

Macross Delta Scramble, aka Anime Ace Combat, is another PS Vita game which instead focuses around Macross instead of Gundam. Macross, for those that don't know, is an anime series running since 1982 with the original Super Dimensional Fortress Macross with the show focusing around aircraft that turn into mechs, epic dogfights, and music. Yep, Macross is where Idol Anime originates from. Some of you might also recognize Macross as Robotech, specifically the first 36 episodes of Robotech as it was literally just a slightly rewritten version of Macross.

Delta Scramble's story mode focuses on the events of the latest Macross entry, Macross Delta (www.youtube.com/watch?v=9OS1hZ…), more specifically the show's first 13 episodes as the game released before the show finished and let's you play as either side in the events of the show as well as bonus missions that allow you to unlock other pilots and their VFs(Variable Fighters) from previous entries of the franchise such as the original SDF Macross, Macross Plus, Macross 7, and Macross Frontier. While the flight controls for the PS Vita are very simple and easy to remember, it gets interesting when you switch into the Gerwalk or Battroid modes as it then feels like your conventional mecha game. Also, the tradition of Macross being the ability to spam missiles like you'll never get to use them again. You can actually cause your game's frame rate to drop from so many missiles on screen it's absolutely great.

The game also gives you support characters, these are singers from the franchise who will play a certain song of your choice that they have actually sung in the show and during that time, your HP will heal and in the case of atleast one support character, will give you unlimited ammo, meaning unlimited missile spam. The VFs can also be upgraded and given booster packs which will act as double health, once their health is gone, they're ejected from your VF and you're back on your base health. Your VFs also have special attacks depending on which craft your piloting, and it's usually going in and beating the crap out of the enemy with your hands and feet or just the classic missile spam.

I also recommend giving the franchise a shot, because what's cooler than seeing an F-14 Tomcat transform into a giant robot? (www.youtube.com/watch?v=per8vo…), literally nothing short of a gigantic space ship transforming into a giant robot.
