Karta, a female Sumatran Orangutan at the Adelaide Zoo.

Orangutans are Critically Endangered with their largest threat being habitat loss, largely for the production of palm oil.  While I was there, I overheard a father tell his son to take a good look at the orangutans, and if people don't change their ways, the zoo would be the only place left to see them.  Another woman said she was anti-captivity until she witnessed the destruction of natural habitats first-hand, and now knows zoos are essential to conservation work.  Indeed.
