OK, disclaimer. I created this with full intentions of watching and enjoying The Battle of Five Armies. But . . . wow. That was a lot of clips of people looking like they wish they could be anywhere in the world except where they are right now. The whole message of the trailer seems to be, bring your hankies and get ready for near-debilitating catharsis. I'm hoping Peter Jackson has chosen to exaggerate the overall desolation-causing aspects of this movie in the hopes that audiences will be pleasantly surprised by the humorous and uplifting bits.

*Edit: I have now seen The Battle of Five Armies, and I am happy to report that the message of the trailer was not entirely accurate. The villains aren't the only ones who enjoy themselves. Dain Ironfoot also seems to get a huge kick out of war and slaughter. Other than that . . . yeah. The warning was true. Everyone you care about spends practically the entire movie overwhelmed by the awfulness of it all. But hey, once you get reconciled to that, it's all good fun!*

Yah, it was a pretty big letdown. Not as fun as the others, too much action and not enough substance, and very cheesy elf / dwarf romance.

Also not much SMAUG, which was the biggest letdown by far. They saved him from dying in the last movie just to kill him off (in another cliche way) before they even showed the title? Ughhh. X___x

Heh. You know the irony? When I made this, I was mostly afraid that the final movie would be too gut-wrenchingly sad for me. But when I actually saw it . . . I was too distracted by all the things I wished they'd done differently to register much sorrow. The irritated disappointment interfered with mygrief, and that's the worst part of all.

Eyyyup I feel you. There were parts in the previous movies that I disliked, but they were still pretty enjoyable in their own way. Meanwhile I was too busy shaking my head in this one to enjoy it so much. XD;;

I think the movie's going to be awesome. But I do have to admit the trailer does seem really depressing. But who knows. Maybe near the start of the battle we'll get some funny combat scenes with some of the dwarves before everything gets super serious.

Let's hope. And then at some point Thorin has to give Bilbo the mithril coat, right? So that's one almost guaranteed bright spot. Before, you know, it turns deeply and poignantly ironic.

Whatever uplifting bits will be there I know one thing - me and my cinema chair and floor around will be soaking wet!
