Journal Entry: Wed Feb 1, 2012, 6:42 AM

:iconyinamon: (Yina) is doing a survey for her own thesis, linked here: poll.kisuki.net/index.php?sid=…

instead of drawings though, she's offering a $50 gift certificate from YesAsia/Ebay/Amazon/ $40 direct via PayPal as a random prize. which strikes me as being a much more time-efficient prize but yeaa I never learned to plan ahead

I think she's done already? Thanks to those who participated!

The survey is pretty important for my Bachelor thesis. :) This is why I added the sweepstake. But of course you can just answer the questions without participating in the sweeptstake :)

Ah yes, the use of a prize. It's such a good way to motivate people to take part in your research. It works almost as well as paying every participant (though I think they don't do this for surveys but rather laboratory experiments).

laboratory experiments... that sounds vaguely suspicious. or maybe I read too many suspense stories of bio weapons gone wrong

Depends on the type of laboratory experiment. Of course the type I'd like to carry out but will never be allowed to thanks to the ethics comity.

She's giving a random prize money just to fill the survey? I plan on doing it for free if you don't mind.

oh, it's a random prize... means that out of all the entries she'll pick one participant who gets it.

Though of course no one minds kindness in this sort of activity! I think she'd be happy to have your opinion :D

Well, when you do a favor to somebody, you normally do it withouth expecting anything in return, at least that's how I see it.

There are a lot of ppl who completed the survey without participating in the sweepstake :) It's not exactly a favor to be honest, I'm just asking for their opinion.

But then, why did you decided to give a randomly random prize money to a random person? It could've gone well withouth the reward in my opinion :hmm:

I don't quite understand what exactly you're trying to say O_O; If you don't wanna participate in the sweepstake because you simply wanna help, just don't click "yes". xD

"But then, why did you decided to give a randomly random prize money to a random person?"
1. The prize is not random. It's either a gift certificate or cash, depending on what the winner will choose.
2. I won't pick a random person. The id of the winner will be generated by an automatic bot.

"It could've gone well withouth the reward in my opinion"
Nope. People are more interested in completing a survey if they can win something. Only 100 out of 369 participants didn't join the sweepstake. I need more than 300 ppl in order to get valid results. The chances of getting more than 300 participants WITHOUT a prize are really low. I don't have much time to wait and it's not really worth either.

You don't have to complete the survey if you don't agree on me giving out a prize. :)

But I have completed the survey days ago before we started talking ^^; I was just curious about the why's and stuff, but I did survey the same day I read this journal.

Oh thanks then! Well, nowadays ppl are not interested in joining anything unless you give them something in return xD

It'd be nice if everyone was like you who simply just wants to help :)
