Previous part [introduction]: [link]

Alternative part [vector lineart]: [link]

Next part [coloring]: [link]

Please remember that if you use this method for the lineart, your artwork is not a vector - it's a vexel. So put it in Vexel gallery, 'kay? ^^

If you're wondering why I'm submitting new version of this part of my tutorial again [instead of editing the old version] - that's because the old one was reported a few days ago and deleted. Yeah, some idiot apparently decided that using an anime screenshot in a tutorial is a case of art theft :aww: I wish he [or she] waited two more days - I was in the middle of working on a new version when I read that note about deletion, lol xD Or they could just report all parts [three other also had anime screenshots] - that way I would submit all of them again.

Funny thing, when a few months ago I asked Vector Gallery Director, ^Ikue if it's okay to use a screenshot [I was a little concerned about this], he said it's fine. Well, apparently it's not... You know, dA admins should finally make up their minds and stick to their own policy instead of confusing people.

Anyways, here's a brand new version, with [hopefully] better explanation and a sketch instead of a screenshot as a reference picture. Thank you, =Washu-M for letting me use your drawing ^^ :glomp:

If there are any parts you find unclear, please don’t hesitate to comment. I’ll try to explain it for you once again in different words, if possible.

Also, I’ll be more than happy to see your own vectors, made with the help of this tutorial. ^.^

Yeah, you're right. My whole gallery is filled with anime vectored from a screenshot :/

I dont' know anymore about that "dArama" involving anime vectored screenshots...

Same here -_-' I stopped trying to understand it long time ago >_< What irritates me the most is that nobody minds vectors based on photos of famous people - they even get DDs. People seem to ignore the fact that they're also 'copies of copyrighted images'. So why copying a screenshot is bad and copying a photo is okay? Aren't the copyrights involved in both cases? *sigh* Oh well, like I said, I gave up and stopped vectoring screenshots.

Yeah, it's frustrating...then what are you vectoring now?
Like you said, all this stuff doesn't put me in good mood to open photoshop :/

thanks for the answer

Well, when I'm making the lineart, I'm using photos as a reference for the body, and screenshots for the face [but I'm not vectoring the screenshots directly, just using them to help me get facial features right]. In many cases =saharaam, my roommate helps me with things like hands or proportions. She also helps me with shading. It's takes me 10 times longer to vector something now, but at least I can avoid flames >_<

wow, It takes too long for me too, because I open Photoshop for only 30' a day, I can't stay too much time in front of the screen, it's tiresome :(

Right now I'm working in a new vector using different images as a reference...and it's hard. I just hope it doesn't look deformed when I finish xD

You know you can do this the exact same way you did it in Illy as long as you don't press "delete path"? If you ever want to resize it then you resize the paths, and re-fill them with color.

Of course I know that, I checked out all popular vector programs before I finally decided to use Photoshop ;P Illustrator, Inkscape, Flash, Corel, etc. I don't like Illustrator - I can't get used to the way pen tool works there. It's a little different from Photoshop and I like Photoshop better. ^^;

I think finished product is more crisp in Illustrator(you don't get any pixelated edges), but I agree that the pentool in Photoshop is easier to use.
