Kvdark for Kvantum

KvDark is a dark Kvantum theme (kde-look.org/content/show.php/…) for KDE plus an Arorae decoration, a Plasma theme and a matching GTK2 theme.

My goal was to make a photorealistic dark theme for KDE but the current Qt theme engines weren't flexible enough. So, I made "Kvantum", with which it was possible to create what I had in mind. Kvantum has its own default theme too, which is inspired by the default theme of Enlightenment.

NOTE: KvDark and KvDarkRed are among Kvantum's extra themes now. Please delete the user installations of these themes and USE THE THEMES THAT COME WITH KVANTUM instead!

Latest changes:

12 Jun 2015
------------
* Rounded progress bars (which need Kvantum >= 0.8.19).
* Tweaked sliders.
* A bit milder gradient for toolbars.
* Header separators (needs Kvantum >= 0.8.20).
* Added a variant with some red elements (KvDarkRed).

Really nice, thanks. :-)
Only the openbox-3 part has a border.width=0, so can't be resized simply.

Set up openbox so that you could resize windows from anywhere by pressing Alt and right mouse button. You could also check Kvantum Manager → Configure Active Theme → Hacks → Force size grips.

BTW, don't use KvDark from here! Remove it with Kvantum Manager and use the one that comes with Kvantum. I've included several high quality themes in recent versions of Kvantum.

hhmm, you might wanna check up on the deb from kde-look, I'm running Kubuntu 14.04-2 Qapt wants to remove a lot of the default video drivers and mesa libs. I just compiled the git version seems to run fine

The dependencies of the deb package are straightforward and it can be installed just fine on Debian. Are you sure that Qapt works OK? What happens when you use terminal with "sudo dpkg -i PACKAGE.deb"?
miksedk's avatar
Haven't tried that, just installed via git that way around was safe enough.

Here (github.com/tsujan/Kvantum/issu…) a user had reported a similar issue, which was apparently Qapt's fault (because "dpkg -i" and gdebi-kde worked OK). Please just tell me if you have libgl1-mesa OR libgl1 installed!

they should both be installed yes, but i get it checked tomorrow. getting late here, and haven't slept much the last 48 hours

hhmm maybe just install it again...forgot I didn't install kvantum on my desktop machine only on my Lenovo T500

hhmm maybe time to upgrade Kvantum folder :-D

Mmmmmmm yeah that reminds me very much of the old derivative "Overglossed Peace" based on TheRob's old SlicknesS themes. Red and Black almost kinda latex feel too it :-P

To me, there can be some sort of serenity in red and black when red is used as foreground appropriately.
miksedk's avatar
Exactly, I follow what you mean. I think I have that same feeling with red and black together.

So, you might also want to try KvFlatTranslucentRed from here kde-look.org/content/show.php/… (the third screenshot) if you like flat themes too.

You're most welcome!, Unfortunately,  I can't use it or give you a feedback ..
I'm on gnome 3.4.2 with ubuntu 12.04.. :( ..
tsujan's avatar

That's OK.
For me, Gnome-3.4 was the last usable version. With v3.6, I came to KDE.
