GnomishGray is a silver gray theme for GTK3. It also contains a matching GTK2 theme, that depends on the latest Murrine and Pixmap engines.

*** Current Dependencies ***

GTK3 = 3.12.X (works with 3.10 too)
gtk2-engines-murrine >= 0.98.1.1 (for GTK2)
Metacity >= 2.34 (for GTK2)

*** Important Notes ***

(1) Ubuntu users should disable "overlay-scrollbar" before using this theme, otherwise they might see blackened widget areas (a bug in overlay-scrollbar with a won't-fix tag). See help.ubuntu.com/12.10/ubuntu-h…

(2) Debian users may have to patch Cairo with 'server_side_gradients.patch' (bug #616308), which is included in other distros by default.

it doesn't seem to work, only the window colors but with the original design
i think it's a dependency problem, too bad my computer isn't relied to the internet to install them
thanks though  ;)

It just depends on GTK3 >= 3.10 and gtk2-engines-murrine. It could be helpful if you show me a screenshot.

it has gtk 3.1, so i think it's gtk2-murine, and sorry i can't bring a screenshot, i'm not on my computer
also note that i'm using kali linux (a penetration testing distribution based on debian7 with a very basic look and  a lot of removed packages)

Sorry that it doesn't work for you! Unfortunately Gtk3 isn't backward compatible, so a theme for gtk3 >= 3.8 won't work with 3.1. I have Debian Testing and tested the theme with Ubuntu Trusty too.

fixed it :D
i don't know exactly how since i tried like 20 things
thanks for support and the theme :)

Tried on 14.04 with GTK 3.10.X.
Awesome tsujan!

Thank you very much! Sadly, GTK3 devs constantly break their API and ruin the themes with every new version. That's the reason I didn't update the themes for v3.10.

Maybe you should consider KDE instead of gnome? :-) I'm consider very much going KDE for good, just had to try out 14.04 Ubuntu, But I see with every release of Ubuntu it's just getting worse and worse. so I'm really thinking KDE from now on

I'm a KDE user since 2012 ;) Months ago, I discovered Enlightenment too. It's like my second house now.

I've reduced the dependencies of these themes to GTK+. As far as GTK+ isn't limited to Gnome, I'll continue updating them.

For KDE, see tsujan.deviantart.com/art/QKDa… , tsujan.deviantart.com/art/QKGr… and  tsujan.deviantart.com/art/nouv…

I know, but I actually thought you had gone back to gnome/gtk3 desktops again. maybe just for a shorter period
tsujan's avatar
I think no one, who has seriously used KDE, could leave it ;)

Exactly, I really tried some times giving Ubuntu a chance......but I think Ubuntu's going down, gnome3/gtk3 ruined gnome imho no matter what distro. I think I'd always love KDE

The theme still works fine, for updates I hope you re-think.

So, this time, the API changes shouldn't be big. I'll check that as soon as a usable version of Gnome-3.10 comes to Debian.

Ubuntu remix gnome 3.6. In evolution when you mouse over a task or a memo the popup description is blackened and no text is visible.
tsujan's avatar
Thank you for reporting that problem. Here, with Gnome 3.6.2, Evolution 3.6.3 and GTK+-3.6.4, there isn't such an issue: the popups are dark but the texts are white and visible.

The reason you see such problems is that you use Remix and Gnome lacks backward compatibility. It's a bad habit of the Gnome developers that they usually break many things, which used to work with a previous version. I can do nothing except waiting for the next stable version of Gnome and changing the theme according to the new API.

Thanks for looking into this. I have used different versions of Gnome but the more pure versions, i.e.: Fedora, have more issues than the Remix version. Fedora crashes the gnome shell constantly when extensions are in use. That said, Remix appears has been the most bug free version of Gnome 3.6 that I have found thus far. Any other recommendations are welcome.

Sorry, I mistook Remix with an unstable version of Ubuntu; I thought it uses Ubuntu Raring repository.
Now, what are the GTK+ and Evolution versions you use? The main download link on this page is for GTK+-3.6.4 (and Evolution 3.6.3 -- the latest for Gnome 3.6). If you have GTK+ 3.6.0, please download the theme from the link in the Note (1) above.
