A crystal prison by trivialtales A crystal prison by trivialtales
Issue 2 is finished, so naturally, the next step is Issue 3. Here's what will very likely be the cover of that issue, which I'm planning on having out by some point in Spring 2017.

The character angling in the sphere was difficult, but I think I pulled it off. I enjoyed painting this a lot, and I'm working on the outline of a new Luna side project which will allow me to do more paintings.

The events of this cover definitely don't happen in any literal way... In fact, I'll still have to decide if this cover is appropriate after #3 is totally finished. Still haven't decided this is the final, or how much is revealed about this character in the comic.
I generally use only gouache nowadays for all traditional coloring, but this might have watercolor in it? I don't remember if I used both. There's a little bit of marker and pencil detail on the skirt and the pillow. There's a bit of digital in there too, most notably on the crystal ball.

That's cool! I love gouache. I wish I could use it more effectively though, because at the moment it all turns to mud for me. You have a good handle on the medium and getting good colors to blend, but that's probably because you watercolor too (my other weakness haha). Still cool piece whether this becomes the final cover or not. :D

I thought I was good at watercoloring, but I honestly don't think I was until I did it for at least 5 years, and even now, I'm learning more about texturing and shading... it's a neverending learning experience, this here art.

Love the colors.  Love the subtle distortion of the image inside the orb.  All very nice.

Thanks. The gradients in the orb definitely add something that does not exist on the physical version.

Likely?
This SHOULD be the cover for issue #3

I like it more every time I look at it. It's sure to end up as the cover unless I make something more fitting, which is doubtful.

The Luna and Maple in the crystal ball look awesome.  Although the first appearance of the witchy character is what I'm most curious about.

September (the green haired girl) is going to be a fun character to write...

In addition, introducing her here saves me from the burden of making the entire issue a continuation of the events from #2, which I only want to make part of the issue about. I'm not good with a singular focus, probably because of ADD or something. Plus I like the challenge of juggling multiple plot threads.
