Only in the summer does the sun stay awake so late, but even the sun must eventually go to its rest.  On this evening, with the air humming with warmth and evening birdsong, and with the sea lapping salty brine against a sandy shore riddled with discarded shells, a mare was not ready to say goodnight.  How could she resist a world glowing with sunset, with the grass and the sea breeze so cool on her hooves, on her skin?  How could she resist the rush of wind in her hair as she ran?  Rani loped along the edge of a cliff above the sea, and the world was her oyster.  As she ran, she laughed, and as she laughed, birds sang with her.  

And then she was gone, a blue blur streaking along the cliffside and into the distant summer haze.
