I know I've asked this before, but if you had to choose between screentoned, black and white comics and cell shaded comics for me to make which would you pick?

214 deviants said Screentoned (note: while these pages wouldn't be as colorful and vibrant, they'd be much easier to mass-produce)
204 deviants said Cell shaded (note: while these pages would be more colorful and vibrant, the production time would be much longer)

My vote was for Cell-Shaded, only because I don't mind waiting (an unpopular opinion, I'm aware), and prefer quality over quantity. Furthermore, there are some artists who've produced just flat B&W/Screentoned stuff, and it's a mess. It doesn't seem like that's the setup we'd run into here, given the usual quality of your work, but to me it's a concern. Having to squint and twist your head to figure out how the layers go together in a badly composed comic is problematic and frustrating, so I prefer to avoid it altogether with colored content.

All that said, between the quality of your work and what Thorvrog is suggesting, I think it makes a lot of sense.

I also side with Thorvrog on this issue.

Thorvrog has the right of it. I think that is the best solution and everyone wins there.

I voted for cell shaded.  I'm a patient man who appreciates quality.  However, I'm also aware that when you have fans expecting something, leaving them waiting can be frustrating or, in some cases, unpleasant.

Cripes, am I aware of that second part.

So yeah, it's probably more prudent to evaluate the demands of the comic you're about to draw.  If it's something simple and short, the effort involved with the cell shaded style might be less daunting.  Something more lengthy?  I'd do the screen tones.  Also ask what would suit the comic more.  There are some stories I think might work better in black and white than others.  It can be a stylistic choice as well.

Thorvrog sounds reasonable, so I'll just go with what he said.

I picked cell shade, because even though it takes awhile, I think its worth it and it looks nice.

black and white. has more of a stylized feel to it for me, personally.

I concur with Thorvrog. For short comics, cel-shaded would be appropriate, but longer, more involved comics should be screentoned to make production time shorter (unless you're going for that MSPA look, I guess).

I'm so used to manga that I tend to prefer black and white.

I voted screentoned, because I too know how it is to try and make comics.

However, for one - five pages at the very max comics could be cell shaded, but for anything longer, Screentoned definatley is the better option.
Trinity-Fate Featured By Owner Jun 30, 2015  Hobbyist Digital Artist know, that's actually a really good idea. For shorter comics I could do cell shaded, but for longer, more plot-focused comics I could do screentones and black and white.

I might just do that.

Yeah, because in a way then the workload is even out. Since it's shorter you can add more details without spending far too much time - dependant on your drawing speed - and for the longer ones simplify it a bit to cope with the quantity. After all, mostly comics are kept up by the story, so a downgrade in quality is usually accepted for the story.

Another thing you could do for the very long ones, like almost thirty pages long, is to have the first three or five pages to set the story up be cell-shaded, and then the others be Screentoned again, like a Manga. Could be a way to draw in more attention and readers to the comic. Just food for the mind.
