why should people ask permission to make fan art? in fact why make that a rule exactly?
that's the point of fanart its suppose to be a surprise from the people who love and admire you and your art/oc's.

but I do understand its a common courtesy to ask for permission, so I kind of understand a bit. but to make it a rule? just nope.

I think for some people... and knowing the shiet that goes on these days on the internet... is the slight fear of someone stealing your OC that the reason they ask, even if its obvious, is to see if drawing their OCs is allowed as gifts or whatnot.

Of course half of the times it doesn't really happen (the theft and not letting the original artist know of it) but some ppl are not rly sure they can, or something, and just want to confirm to the artist of their fav character to do a fanart of them.

Then again, some ppl actually write on their page to let those know its ok for fanart... othertimes they will let others know that it is NOT ok to draw their characters... hey, I've seen a few ppl who write that on their page as a warning, alongside that of "do not use my OC(s) for RPs and whatnot, reposting on other sites, and etc"

Wait people have it as rules? Heck, I get giddy when I see anything pop up in my inbox that someone drew for me, even when I expected it like an art trade or commission, so I'm like "OMG" when I see gifts for me even come into my inbox xD

I agree, I hate when people are like "ask permission to draw my OCs as a gift" Like, that's rude. Obviously most people will credit you, so there's that, but I just think it's a rude rule to make people ASK before giving you a gift.
And then they get mad at you for not asking and don't thank you for the gift.

Right???! I hate it.
That's why I'm completely OK with people drawing my OCs as a gift if they want to, lol.
I think it's nice someone wanted to take time outo f their day just to draw my character.
