Achillobator

By
Achillobator! A member of the big 3 deinonychosaurs (Other 2 being Austroraptor and Utahraptor). One of my personal favorites. The colors were based on the Golden Eagle, but i'm not sure if I like it. Please give me feedback. I really like how I make the feathers now, though. :P

And again, give me critiques, and/or tell me how awesome I am. B) And please point out any inaccuracies.

Reference used was Qilong's reconstruction ([link]).

Very beautiful work. It's reconstructions like these that have allowed me to finally like feathered dinosaurs.

You don't know how much I appreciate a comment like that. :D Thanks!

Great pose and coloration! The only quibble is that when the wing is folded, the primary (hand) feathers go under the secondary (arm) feathers, not reverse. But advanced dromaeosaurs probably couldn't not fold the wing that much anyway (at least, Deinonychus couldn't).

I did not know that. Thanks a lot for informing me! :D

THIS REALLY GOOD! only one thing looks a little bit wrong, its something i noticed on some other raptor pictures too: The sickle claw looks too small, it has the same size as the other claws, but despite this its really good, I really like the head of it :)

You're right! Thanks! :D

A lot better than I could ever do.

Takes time, mayne. Your drawings are great if you take time; like your Troodon and Concavenator.

Thanks for the kids words. :D

Very nice. Very well drawn, great colours.

Very good! Though if the head is meant to be feathered the feathers should probably extend down the snout as well. You could probably also get away with a more ostrich-like covering with the large deinonychosaurs.

So semi-accurate? Or does it require a fix? I was thinking about the Ostrich thing, which you told me on my Utahraptor sketch, but as I progressed, I thought the feathers looked cooler... You'll never hear that in real life. xD Thanks for giving me feedback! Means a lot! :D

It's acceptable as is; I'd simply extend the head feathers further, and the red is probably too bright for a carnivorous dinosaur ([link]). An ostrich-like covering is arguably more plausible, though I wouldn't say it's a necessary fix.

Ahh, thanks! I'll get to fixing those asap!

awesome drawing! love how well teh colors turned out, and the detail. i don't really see anything bad, anatomically speaking. If anything artistically, i would love to see a human figure, to show how massive this raptor really is.

Well, height wise, according to Qilong's reconstruction ([link]), It would be about 6 ft tall at the hips. The height of the average man! Austroraptor is a bit taller, but has a shorter tail, so it's around 19 ft long (like Achillobator). Utahraptor is about 23 ft long, but it was recently discovered to have short, stocky legs, so I'm not certain of it's height, but it's probably around the same. Thanks for the comment! :D

no worries! i've always loved dinos, especially the raptors, and ilove the colorings of the people who color thier raptors like birds. it just seems so realistic! last time i checked, Utahraptor was around 5' 10''- 6' 2'' tall, depending on the specimen. I've also heard that Utahraptor may have grown up to 33 feet long.

Ehh, I'm still not convinced. The Caudal vertebra being a misplaced Thoracic. :\ I'd check the paper, but I'd rather keep $40. :P

i wasn't too sure if it's real either, but it's worht mentioning.

This is really great! I love the details of the scales, the legs, etc. I think maybe the feathers/fur? could use a little more shading/highlighting, and I see a little spot on the jaw (lower bit) that could possibly be shaded? This is a really nice image though! ♥
triggamafia's avatar
You know what... I actually forgot all about shading this!! D: I'll get to it ASAP, thanks for reminding me, and thanks for the feedback! :D

I'm glad I reminded you - it's an amazing picture! ♥ and anytime!
