Sailing in the breeze
Roots, they are
Firm and sprawling
Grasping, winding
Seeking water
Seeking nourishment
Seeking foothold
From the tiniest filaments
To the log-sized arms
Sharing load and weight
Trunk, it is
Vertical and stout
Stretching, reaching
Sharing water
Sharing nourishment
Sharing foothold
From the knot
Near the surface
To the shoulders high above
Branches, they are
Numerous and bold
Waving, singing
Drawing water
Drawing nourishment
Drawing foothold
From the shoulder
To the twigs
Reaching for the sun
Twigs, they are
An endless cohort
Trembling, shivering
Seeping water
Seeping nourishment
Seeping foothold
Tiny shoulders
Fingers thin as straws
Lending grounding to the leaves
Leaves, they are
Dare not seek to count them
Just wallow in their beauty
Consuming water
Consuming nourishment
Consuming foothold
Here, the magic happens
Rays of light absorbed
And turned essence of a life
Underneath your shadow
I look up to your crown
You have seen us trickle by
Hundreds
