This is why I go up the mountain every day, and it makes things more fun when able to capture such cool shapes within the aurora.
Oh an may i add, it has been some heavy days lately, have to dress for standing still, which means when moving up a mountain with all the camera gear it is quite hard.
But it is all worth it for a shot like this, I am very proud of this cause I feel I was finaly able to capture the aurora where it speaks for itself with almost no foreground help.
For the post processing: contrast +30, clarity +32, lower by 300 temp to bring forth the stars, increased whites and blacks by a smidge, reduced the purple saturation a tad, lens correction.
Used hyperfocal distance to get everything in focus, so wasnt much need for sharpening really, but added some to it.

Given 2012-11-12Beautiful. That's the only word that fits. The colouring and shading are absolutely spectacular, and the details are so lifelike. Amazing job.
i am in AWE looking at all your photos, i only picked a few favorites but really they all are my favorites
Amazing photo! I feel that I should thank you for going "up the mountain" to capture it for us.
Thank you very much, I am glad you like it.
No need for that, I knew the rewards of going up that mountain to make the capture and I got paid in full.

Your efforts are well met.
This capture frolics around my iris's
and as well beholds a personal presence from the time spent awaiting for this moment to unfold.
I am a fan already of time and exposures.
Your lens is a dessert my good man, thank you dearly.

WOW! this is the best sky I've ever seen.... I've always wanted to seen an aurora, you're really lucky. Where is this place?
Thank you for bringing us such beautiful images! I may never see these wonderful lights in person, but I almost feel like I have when looking at these breath taking photos. Bravo!

First off, The lights. They stand out so much in this picture! They make like a gradient kinda like picture. It looks almost like there's going to be some portal in the middle of the sky!
Second, The stars. It makes it look sparkly and it doesn't cover up the aurora. It kinda makes it pop out a little.
Last, the trees. The position of the trees look amazing! It doesn't really cover a lot of this picture but the trees look like the're trying to reach up for the aurora because of how it's so beautiful.
Your photography is amazing! I hope you keep taking more pictures for all of us on Deviantart!
People who have never heard of the aurora would probably gaze upon it and wonder, "How much equipment did they need for that?"
Truly stunning photo. I love the angle, and the lighting (of course) against the trees was excellent. Most importantly, I love how "back to earth" this made me feel, because lately I've been forgetting how pretty nature can be.
Continue doing what you're doing, it's stunning.
