NECA The Nun by TrevorGrove NECA The Nun by TrevorGrove
Happy Halloween! Something spooky I got to work on with NECA toys. The "Sister Act" movies look a lot different, now, than they did in my day....... :)

This was a fun project, although I'm not really familiar with "the Conjuring" movies. I was delighted to learn while sculpting this that actress Bonnie Aarons played that absolutely terrifying bum in David Lynch's great "Mullholland Dr."..... She has a wonderful unique face, and I had fun with this project. This is for an 8" retro style action figure NECA is producing.

Sculpted in TMS wax, tiny.....The final painted/tailored pictures are accomplished by NECA's artists, I just included them because seeing a Nun without full habit....it just isn't right. :)

Haha! They're all sooo good, but you have to sauté them each in communion wine to get the most out of them...

:D Thanks man! The horror projects have actually been a ton of fun the past couple of years....Not typically a genre I'm drawn to.

That scene from Mulholland Dr. is one of my favorites.  Did they provide you with images of the actress without the makeup?

That movie is really great, and I love that scene too....Lynch pulls off scary better than horror movies do, for me.
I was given some Nun reference to work from that was great, but I always research my subjects to find all kinds of additional reference.

Lynch achieves a sense of true psychological horror that few modern horror films even attempt.

I think she's just a little heavy handed on the eye shadow and lipstick. Really digging the fabric folds at the back of her head.

Heavy lipstick and eyeshadow?! She's trying to look nice for Jesus! :D
Thanks, man! So glad you like the folds, that part of the habit was really fun.

Without the "demonic" facepaint on she looks so lovely! At least the closed mouth variant :') I really like how you sculpted her headdress. And her nose! She has an awesome nose

:D Yes, I was so surprised how they achieved her scary appearance for the film mostly just with the pale skin and dark shadows....and some spooky contacts. Her natural face isn't scary at all. That nose is amazing.
Thanks very much, as always, for your kind words!
