A piece I worked on all summer in my limited free-time to celebrate some of the great work of Maynard James Keenan, one of my favorite artists.

The music Maynard is part of in all three bands has been a constant source of inspiration and motivation for me over the years. I’m really grateful to my brother, Trent, for having introduced me to TOOL’s music when I was a kid. It had a genuinely huge impact on me. He and I have gone to many a Puscifer, A Perfect Circle, and TOOL show together, and those are experiences I’ll always treasure.

This piece was sculpted by hand in wax, and cast in resin. Painted with acrylic. Approximately 8” tall.

Gosh that turned out amazing, i was unsure which of the photos to comment on because every angle is so interesting. I really love the gradiant from his head to the resin "hair" because it looks so smooth and seemless. I could look at this sculpt for ages!

Thank you so much! I'm really glad you like it. That transition into the hair/flame was something I kept over doing.... In the end the best way to make it look good was to not put any paint at all on the flames and transition into the clear resin gradually....Sometimes you really have to force yourself to simplify an approach....The same went with his eyes...I had painted the eyes and eyebrows on, and it just lost something.
Thank you, again!
