how a chubbanimal comic page comes to life by trenchmaker how a chubbanimal comic page comes to life by trenchmaker
Basically what the title says. I already explained my work steps more than once. But with a page in all stages it looks more logical.
1. I doodle in a Moleskine. I use one for all which means my Moleskines don't look pretty since I also takes notes and honestly my doodles look crappy. But they help. And that's the most important aspect.

2. Every doodles gets the final form and shape on A4 paper. I use a light table and a normal adjustable drawing table and a mechanical pen to make these as clean as possible. You can see some photos of the process here:
trenchmaker.blogspot.de/2010/0…

3. Flats... I work with layers and I don't have a problem admitting it. Flats are a beautiful invention. Ususually done by :iconenonea: She did these the last couple of years for chubs and will hopefully do them in the next .... 20 years. >_<

4. Painting... from flats to painting I usually need a complete day or even two. Because the final size is A3 (yes, that big) and details take time. You won't see everything in the digital version but printed these will rock.

And that's about it. New comic page probably on Thursday since I'm visiting the parental units on Friday.

Anne :sun:

And yes, the flats and coloration + digital pre-lettering is done in Photoshop. Book lettering will be done in Indesign of course.

And now I'm glad I did around 30 Kiki emoticons because these come in handy. :D whopee.

Thanks for letting us know how you work.😊 My question is if you work in A3, don't you get any trouble in slowing Photoshop down or even crashing it?

No. If it happens with your system I'd check the Photoshop settings (how many memory of your system is it allowed to use) and if you actually have enough RAM and if the computer is generally capabable of working with a greedy program like Photoshop or not.

The only file where I really experienced problems was with a heavily layered 5 Meter huge 300 dpi file but tbh my computer is set up for heavy workload and I grant Photoshop 80% memory of all 4 hard disks the little trooper has.

I love your art, your characters and it's great to see it here, being developed, from scratch.
It's impossible to don't get fond of your cute drawings, just like they were real kitties…

Thank you for the compliment. It means a lot to me. I mean I have my cats all day around me and see their weird habits and how they have so few facial expressions (cats really do- the eyes probably do the most work) and even than they just look ashamed, in troll mode, content and confused and I like to squirrel these memories away and put them on paper... thanks god nobody complains about missing noses.

Usually I do these on my own but with chubs it's easier since Lew knows how I work and we work good together- if we ever manage to meet. At the moment it's quite... impossible to do anything besides lettering. >_< No time! Meh!

haha... MoleSkine is the company or better the type of notebook. It got it's name from the black leathery cover wrap that looks like the fur of a mole. Well, since I had a mole in my hands already (awesomely silk soft....) I know this is not very accurate but alas... Their paper rocks since it's thick and sturdy and just the best smooth paper you can get in a notebook.

I made a blog entry about passion food moleskine some months ago...
