The new guy by trenchmaker The new guy by trenchmaker
Sorry for the ugly light and my messy table (that's... actually quite neat- I had a lot of worse days). We are currently fiddling around with the new setup since I already need the "new guy" already tomorrow for work *orz*

Anyways. Girls n guys, this is the Workforce DS-5000 A3 scanner. Scanner, this is the rest of the crowd.

As I said I will do a review when I have tested out how good the scanner works and if it's worth the many bucks I had to pay for it. The size is 100%ly NOT convenient regarding space it eats up but the size it can scan is great.

I needed a bigger (and good) scanner due to some changes in my working methods. For a new game job (or over ten... ) I have to draw everything by hand on paper to achive the effect we desire.

The scanner is not my first choice (that would have been the Epson Expression 11000XL) but somehow... still barely reasonable within the price range I am willed to pay for a good scanner.

Will keep you updated and do a review soon-ish.  If you have questions let me know.

Anne

Will move this to scrapbook in a week.

um, i checked for the best offer on the internet (searching for a shop in Germany though). You should do the same- the price ranges per shop (and even day) and usually the shops have different warranty/send back service so you'd better compare these as well.

Would you please share a bit info on the result of scanning pencil lines. I'm still looking for a good scanner for pencil drawing. Thank you in advance.

I posted a first impression review. I only use coloured pencils at the moment (Koh-I-Noor Diamon Drawing) but the scans are great.
If you have anything you want to have tested let me know (shading, strokes, darkness).

Thanks for the reply. Color pencil is even softer than normal pencil, I would say the textures are great after seeing the image from your Facebook.
I will definitely get one if the epson shop around me has this model. Thanks for sharing!

Np. You might get a problem if you use a.... 2h mechanical 0,5 mm on natural paper (so not 100%ly white). I did some tests with a HB and they are basically the same as the coloured. You might want to try scanning in color mode (even if it's black n white) since that mode tends to grab more contrasts.

Very helpful information! You did lots of testing!
If you do not mind, could you please do another testing?
I experienced scanning a watercolor painting which I faced a seriously problem on the inaccurate color especially purple or violet.
Adjusted on photoshop and the purple color is still dull and dim. But this could be happened to all sort of scanner, just would like to know is it already improved on your new guy?

will do when I'm back from the hospital. Violet and blue shades are also a huge problem for printers so I 100%ly know the problem.

Yes, that one I got as a Toddler. Up close it has a sewn back together tummy because it ripped and the fur is ... well loved. ^^;

hmm seems like you can either scan a few pages at a time, or use the autofeeder option

no autofeeder option on that one. The only autofeed would be me feeding it with pages. ;)

your screen has a tiny window at the end, normally that is used for an autofeed. My bad

Yeah... that. We haven't found out yet what purpose it actually serves. My guess is if you put your papers on top and lift the top the papers won't fall off. ;)

That...Is a scanner. Kind of like when I met my friend's St. Bernard and I said "That...Is a dog."

But St. Bernies aren't that big. We had one. I think this one is more like the Irish Wolfshound or a Danish one.... was "helloed" by a Wolfhound once. It as like an Elephant tackle.

I-Is that a Hanvon tablet? *v*   That's a beast of a scanner tho, hope it works out well for you!   Could you also tell us the brand of that lamp, I'd like to investigate them...~////

No, it's an older Intuos as stated on the image.
The lamp is a Beurer TL 80. This one... is very bright (like UFO landing bright). I have to turn it around a bit when it's next to the computer otherwise I'd be blind.
If you want to have one next to your computer I'd suggest the TL 40 version. I use mine to illuminate the complete (23 square meters) room when I work on different "work stations" during the evening/night.
and beware it's not a medical one- you won't get any proper Vitamin D production with these. ;)

...I don't know how I missed that ahhh I can't read, I'm sorry- Thought I'd finally found someone else using hanvon-

haha that's fine I live in Scotland, we get no vitamin D here anyway so it'd fit in just fine XD  Thanks a lot for the info!  We're converting half of our garage into a workspace for myself, so I need to think about my lighting uvu

hm... honestly for that... it depends on your mood. If you want warm light go for something on the wall or at the ceiling. I have two warm shade lamps on the wall- one left and one right to the work-area.
Additionally there's the Beurer Daylight (only against the tiredness) and a moveable Ikea 4 Euro clamp spotlight with a Lilliput daylight bulb I've been using for.. ages. This one I mostly use for painting on canvas because it doesn't change the colors at all.

Make sure you have fixed indirect light and 1-2 you can move around according to your needs.  There is no "too much light". Take it from a Workaholic. ;)

haha oh I know all too well, we get very little sunlight here, especially in winter, so good indoor lighting is a must! x_x Plus I get headaches working in dim light. ...Though at the same time, ones that are too intensely bright can also give me headaches/vision floaters, so it's a tough getting just the right lighting.
I am having two massive windows fitted though so hopefully that will help at least in the summer.

I guess the biggest issue is cost, and next to that, space.  (We're just making the most of what he have really so it's not going to be a grandscale job) but I have taken note of those suggestions to look into when the time comes for sorting out the electronics!  Having the stationary and movable ones sounds like a pretty good idea~ Thank you so much, you've been really helpful~ C:

you can get a good daylight bulb for under 20 Euro and as I said the actual lamp ... around 5 if you take a clamp thingie. It doesn't have to be super expensive and these can be easily replaced if the bulb is broken.
