"Captain's log, stardate 4202.1. Exceptionally heavy subspace interference still prevents our contacting Starfleet to inform them of the destroyed solar systems we have encountered. We are now entering system L-374. Science Officer Masada reports the fourth planet seems to be breaking up. We are going to investigate."

The Constellation as we never got to see her, perfect, shiny and in her prime. Awesome!

*scurries off to view the rest of this series*

(By the by, TDM is my reigning favourite Trek episode of all time.)

Beautiful picture of the Constellation. I should see about writing up about this one. Will be tricky though. :)

I'm still trying to figure out from it's Registry number what class it was pulled from.

My favorite design still. At the comic book store the other day I saw that you can get a cut-away model of this class starship. I remember when I first saw this episode wondering what could to that to a star ship.

Plan to finish a series of these if I ever find a conversion for the Doomsday Machine and the Constitution.

"The Doomsday Machine" is one of my favorite episodes of all Trek.

Decker thinks a Vulcan would bluff him, until Spock waved the two security guards forward.

The Doomsday Device! I may have mentioned this before, but here goes:
That episode was based on a series of Science Fiction Novels called The Berserkers. As I recall, the series was written by Brian Aldiss, and was adapted to fit into the Star Trek Universe.

A very fine image, and thanks for the Captain's Log clue!

Agreed with Trekkie. They based it loosely off of Moby Dick. Decker was Capatin Ahab quintessentially.

That was the other book mentioned in the interview I read. Many episodes got ideas from different classic books of fiction, and not all were science fiction. This episode was one that merged ideas from different works. Yes the basis was a loose one.

To provide a little info on the Berserker Series:
Berserkers were a robotic weapon that was created by an ancient space faring race that existed long before Earth's forays into interstellar space. They won the war these beings were fighting against another species. After the war, the Berserkers were ordered to shut down, but they had become self aware. They turned on their masters and destroyed them. Then they began searching the galaxy for all forms of biological life with just one purpose; extermination! Earth has, according to the series, aligned itself against the Berserkers in an effort to stop the onslaught.

Hope this helps in understanding my earlier statement.
