Early in the adventure, he became a host for the larva of A Color Out of Space eldritch horror, which gives him powers now but will eventually hatch and go on a world eating rampage in a couple hundred years and he don't plan to make it that long, probably. It's already taken over his right arm and replaced his circulatory system.
