Hi, I'm Joy — a self-taught watercolor artist from Kolkata, India.
I didn't come from an art school. Watercolor found me slowly: first as curiosity, then as a daily discipline. I learned by doing — studying light, watching how water moves on cotton paper, and filling a lot of failed sheets before finding my voice.
My paintings tend to be quiet. Village roads, monsoon light, street corners after rain — ordinary scenes that feel remembered rather than staged. I work mostly on 300–640 gsm cotton paper with limited palettes, building up layered washes to capture atmosphere: the softness of early morning, the warmth of late afternoon shadows.
In 2025, my work was shown at the India Art Carnival at Krittika Art Gallery, Shantiniketan. My originals have found homes with collectors in India and abroad.
I also write about the process — why watercolor resists control, how I approach commissions, what makes an original painting different from a print. You'll find those on my site alongside my full gallery.
Always happy to connect with fellow artists and collectors here.
