I’m holding a bit of a flash/quick contest.
I’ve had a character in my head for... years. He is a part of my BulletFuck series, the detective assigned to track down Wars and The Faceless.
His name is Lazarus Leighton; but goes by the name of Leigh, because of the religious connotations with the name Lazarus (Religion is outlawed in BulletFuck) and being a person in a professional role the connection wouldn’t go down too well.
And, while I know how I want him to be personality wise, I’ve never had any luck with designing him.
Which is where you all come in!
I would love to see your designs/ides for him.
You don’t need to be able to draw for this, either. I am perfectly happy if you want to draw your ideas, but you can use google images or whatever to cut and paste things (clothing, hair styles, accessories etc and descriptions) to ‘create’ Leigh. That way everyone can get involved easily.
You can include a Face Claim with your idea, but you don’t have too.
Personality and Backstory wise, Leigh is loooooong suffering. He was been on The Faceless case for several years and has only been met with dead ends and brick walls (Wars has outsmarted him every step of the way)
His wife left him for another woman (Homosexuality is heavily frowned upon as a general rule) and he is often ridiculed for it; but he holds no animosity towards her.
He smokes and his voice claim would be someone along the lines of Lance Henriksen - gravelly and coarse.
Bare in mind the setting of BulletFuck - Cyberpunk/goth is considered extreme and reserved for counter-culture revolutionaries! The world that Leigh belongs to is more akin to the ‘utopia’ in Demolition Man and Equilibrium (For example) but it’s not... clean. I see if as a healthy blend of that and the classic cyberpunk look of Bladerunner (original)
Because of the nature of the contest, there’s only going to be one winner.

1 Full body art piece of a character of your choice
1 Thigh up
This was the first thing I 'put together' when designing Wars, way back in 2006 (He has evolved since this, but you get the idea) you can make yours look prettier if you want to as long as it gets your ideas across - and you can use the artist comment section to give more details.
Deadline: July 31st
1. Would a full-body reference be a requirement, if the piece is drawn?
Not at all! As long as there is sufficient details to allow me to 'fill in the blanks' in the artist description/comments
2. About how old would he be? Wars is physically 28 and other characters would appear the same, so I assumed he would also be in his thirties. Could age be negotiable?
His age would certainly be either the same or older than the other characters; it's open to interpretation, but I always imagined him to be late 30's - mid 40's.
3. Since he's "on the Faceless case," is he assumed to be a detective or law enforcer? Since he's opposed to revolutionaries, would he likely have more traditional clothes than a character like Wars?
Oh derp! How silly of me to exclude that vital piece of information! He is meant to be a detective, yes. He works for the official government body of the setting, not a private investigator. His outfit would certainly lean to more traditional yes (which I think is where my stumbling block with his design lies) but again, it's open to interpretation. Just because it's more traditional; doesn't mean it has to be our real world traditional.
4. Is he well-off financially or more middle class?
He is single (divorced), middle class. He owns his own home, but it's a relatively small apartment block which he doesn't spend that much time on because he is a work-a-holic
5. Does it rain where he lives?
When it rains, it pours. Especially on Leigh.
6. Also, how did he come by his name? If religion is outlawed and his name is meant to have religious connotations, why would his parents give him such a risky name? Were his parents religious, or perhaps, revolutionaries like those he hunts?
I never thought about this one too deeply, but it's a very good question. I imagine Leigh would have had a bit of a risky upbringing himself, maybe his parents were 'criminals' of some sort and took decided it would be 'edgy' to have a son named after something illegal.
Another thought was to have him be born (just) before WW3 and as such religion hadn't been banned at this point, but I'd have to work out a time-line of events to fully form this thought. Heck, why not the two?
7. Homosexuality is outlawed, and other non-traditional genders likely are as well. Can men have ponytails or samurai bobs in this society, with such rules? Would it be frowned upon, or simply just unlikely in this world?
I wouldn't say there are any strict rules on hair or hairstyles in this world, but such a hairstyle wouldn't be the conventional norm. Just like it isn't in our world. That being said, I think hair-dye would be far, far too out there!
Thank you to for the questions.
If anyone has any more questions, I would love to hear them!
