Tiger Mail 1.5.6 by toyo-snow Tiger Mail 1.5.6 by toyo-snow
NOTE: Get the latest version (with "Find Updates" feature) from Mozilla [link]

Version 1.5.6
updated on December 23, 2005

OS X Tiger Mail skin for Thunderbird 1.5+ [link]

DEC 23 update: Toolbar buttons mouseover effects fixed to ignore the window theme's mouseover effect, for full compatibility to all Visual Styles and WindowBlinds themes.

- Fully functional rounded search bar in all mail windows and address book sidebar

- Includes modded compact menu extension to hide menu bar and display Search image in toolbar; supports "Search" text headers in English, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Swedish languages

- Native Aqua scrollbars, droplist menus, and white-grey striped background menu lists

- Active, inactive and pressed states for all buttons

- Blue and grey background colors for selected, current and focused items

- Message status icons for unread, flagged, junk, attachments, replied and/or forwarded

- Large and small icon views

- Thin folder pane, and message pane with dimple resizer

Theme Installation
- Extract "tigermail-1.5.6-tb.jar" from "".

- In Thunderbird, select Tools > Themes > Install, and open "tigermail-1.5.6-tb.jar". Note you will need to uninstall Tiger Mail 1.5.1 first since version 1.5.5 onwards is a new GUID.

- Select "Tiger Mail" and click "Use Theme".

- Restart Thunderbird.

Extension Installation
Note installation of compact menu is optional

- Extract the modded "compact_tb.xpi" from "".

- In Thunderbird, select Tools > Extensions > Install, and open "compact_tb.xpi".

- Restart Thunderbird.

- Right click on the toolbar, select "Customize", then drag and drop the Search bar image to the menubar. Move up the icons from the mail toolbar to the menubar for a neater look. Then click View > Toolbars > Mail Toolbar Bar to hide it.

- To hide the functional search bar, click View > Toolbars > Search Bar.

- Note compact menu extension doesn't appear in the Extensions window due to a bug. However, it works fine in Thunderbird 1.5+.

- To uninstall compact menu, delete "compact-tb.jar" from "C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default\chrome". Then uninstall and reinstall Thunderbird. Until the extension developer updates compact menu for TB 1.5+, this is the only way to cleanly uninstall the extension.

- To align the "delete" button to start from the right border of the folder pane, right click on the toolbar, select "Customize", then drag and drop multiple "Space" icons (or "Flexible Space" if preferred) to the toolbar.

You can show/hide the fully functional Search bar from View > Toolbars > Search Bar.

- Re-arrange the toolbar icons as per the preview screenshot or to your liking.

- Complements any OS X theme (and even Windows Classic!), though it looks best with the Platinum Aqua sub-style WindowBlinds skin [link] or OSX Tiger IV (Tiger sub-skin) Visual Style [link]

Things to try
+ Message filters. Click Tools > Message Filters to automatically take action for inbox messages by matching filter criteria. An example is automatically moving messages to a designated folder by sender or subject.

+ Junk mail filter. Click Tools > Junk Mail Controls. A Junk folder will then appear in the foler pane containing any junk mail.

+ Saved Search folders. Click File > New > Saved Search or enter search criteria in the functional search bar then click the magnifying glass icon and select "Save search as a folder". Smart virtual folders will then appear in the folder pane, and contain messages of matching criteria. This works for the respective email, rss and newsgroup accounts.

+ View Gmail messages in Thunderbird. Useful for offline reading. See [link]

Changes in Version 1.5.5
- Native Aqua scrollbars, menu droplists and menu lists

- Compact menu extension fixed

- Blue instead of grey selection color if multiple messages selected

- Fixed CSS image link for "New Card" hover small button state in address book

- Question mark alert icon updated for dialog box

- "Reply and forwarded" message status icon updated

- Updated documentation

* Magnus Wild for search bar CSS code and icons
* PDidee for the tiger mail resources

Update for TB 2? I can install and use it under MR TECH's Local extension, but it freezes up when it receives new mail. Other than that, it looks perfect for my Leopard theme!

Great Skin! Perfect for Lucida Grande Font. ;) Thank u! :w00t:
Kroc Featured By Owner May 30, 2006
Absolutely beautiful. The attention to detail to make Thunderbird look like a native app is amazing, this should be a DD! My only problem is that I can't use it because the scrollbars are invisible in OS X :( I tried switching out the scrollbars CSS file as described in the UMO page but this still didn't work :crying: Please, please fix this issue if possible, I need to use this skin >.O

Great looking theme, Thank you for putting all the hard work into it shows.

Very cool. But it would be nice if you offered a blue-aqua version.
ShaaRing Featured By Owner Jan 17, 2006
I installed Mozilla Calendar, and the icon for the calendar will not show using your theme? The icon shows up using other themes. Can you fix this?
yfan Featured By Owner Jan 12, 2006
It is indeed a great theme, and I'd love to use it on Thunderbird. But for some reason, on my Tb 1.5, there are no scroll-bars. Any idea why? I'm really puzzled.
ShaaRing Featured By Owner Jan 12, 2006
Could you make the preview pane bar (the one with the dimple button) darker, say in the brushed platinum color, I think this would give the whole thing a more defined look. Other than this, beautiful!!!!
ShaaRing Featured By Owner Jan 12, 2006
Could you give the "Preview pane" more definition. I think it should be in the "brushed" motif. While I do like the dimple button for draggin the bar, it relly needs to be defined. Other tham this, beautiful!!!!

just perfect !
OtonVM Featured By Owner Dec 28, 2005
Great! Almost perfect! :headbang:
But is there any way to make the spaces between lines in the inbox and rss box (on the left) smaller? I like a more compact look than all that airiness but I also don't see all my feeds without scrolling...
operator207 Featured By Owner Dec 26, 2005
Very pretty, but does not work correctly on MAC OSX itself. No scrollbars. Would love to use this theme but cannot scroll.

toyo-snow Featured By Owner Dec 20, 2005
Only Thunderbird 1.5+ is supported. Just upgrade and you can start enjoying this theme.
snakelake66 Featured By Owner Dec 21, 2005
i tried tb 1.5 but it don't work safe and almost all emails were disappeared. so i have to wait for the final version. thx, a great theme
toyo-snow Featured By Owner Dec 21, 2005
Normally, Thunderbird will create a new user profile folder if it does not exist, and re-use the existing profile folder. However, if upon upgrade to new version of Thunderbird, you get missing emails, then follow these steps:

1. Backup Address Book - "abook.mab" and Local Folder - "Mail" from C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default

2. Then uninstall TB 1.0.7 from Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs, and install TB 1.5rc1 (latest version as of Dec 22, 2005).

3. Create your POP and/or IMAP accounts. However, don't "check for new mail" yet.

4. If all your emails are present, then no further action is required, and ignore steps 5 to 9 below.

5. If emails are missing, then close TB.

6. In Windows Explorer, click Tools > Folder Options. Select "Show hidden files and folders", and click "OK"

7. Check if a new profile "yyyyyyyy.default" folder is created in C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\

8. If yes, then copy "abook.mab" and "Mail" folders that you backed up earlier to C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\yyyyyyyy.default

9. Start TB and all your previous email should be visible in their respective folders.

thanks a lot for your exact description. maybe i should give TB 1.5rc1 another chance...

I'm getting a "install script not found" error when I try to install the compact-tb.jar file
toyo-snow Featured By Owner Dec 20, 2005
I'm working on a fix to compact menu extension if possible. Meanwhile, I recommend using the functional search bar.
