Future Cosplay Plans:
Life's been pretty rough lately...and although I REALLY can't afford new cosplays, there's a lot I have supplies for from years back or more recently that just didn't get made. Luckily, with job searching and applying to grad school, I have a little free time that I can actually devote to cosplay...which is really nice! ^^ So...here are my plans for the rest of 2012 and part of 2013!! (Of course, everything is subject to change lol)
C2E2- Babydoll (Sucker Punch), Asami Sato (Legend of Korra), and Breakfast Princess (Adventure Time)
Katsucon (MAYBE)- Rikku (Final Fantasy X), Princess Tutu, Asami Sato (Legend of Korra), some form of FFX-2 Rikku, and maybe Lebreau (FFXIII)
Acen- Rikku (Final Fantasy X), Princess Tutu, Berserker and/or Black Mage Rikku (FFX-2), Lebreau and Yuj (FFXIII), and maybe Serah Style and Steel outfit (FFXIII)
Location/Non-con shoots- Artbook Chii (Chobits), School girl Asuka (Evangelion), Selphie (FF8), Fashion / Casual Batgirl and Ariel
Youmacon 2012 Con Report:
After staying up nearly all night to work on costumes, (Liz) and I dragged ourselves out of bed and packed up our crap to load in my boyfriend Danny's car. We had a 2 hour delay from our original plan thanks to my wonderful stomach. Pretty sure Liz and I slept most of the way, while poor Danny (who is not a cosplayer or usually a congoer) drove all by his lonesome XD. We got to the con with an hour to spare before my first shoot of the weekend, so we headed to Zoup to eat yummy, warm things! We were supposed to wear our Fashion/Casual Super Heros, but we couldn't check into our room yet...so we decided just to stay in our clothes. That evening I shot with as Duck from Princess Tutu with her Fakir (these two are the SPITTING IMAGE of Duck and Fakir omgggg) and MidnightCosplay in her increddddible Batwoman cosplay! Poor Danny was dying and we still had a lot of work to do on costumes, so we headed up to the room (after the INSANE mess that was hotel check in T_T Stupid Marriott...) and turned on some movies (FLUBBER lol) while we worked!
Friday was SUPER INSANE DAY OF DEATH for photoshoots! We wore our Fashion / Casual Super Heros, since we didn't get to on Thursday. Danny and I had thrown together a cute Robin outfit for him to wear with us too! I think in total...we shot 6-8 shoots that day. AND still did our planned cosplays (Asami for me, Kim Possible for Liz, and Jinora for Teeny!). It was EXHAUSTING to say the least...but I think out of all the ways we've tried to configure shoots/cosplaying during cons...having a 1 day block of shoots worked out the best! Next time I'll definitely NOT do a costume change tho...as I had to walk around in Asami for 2-3 hours without any make up or her recognizable jacket XD. It's always a learning experience lol. Once Teeny and Beth ( and ) arrived and were changed (me included!) we headed back to the con for some Avatar/Kim Possible/Fashion Hulk fun times! Teeny and I decided it's far easier for us to do shoots of our own costumes and this time, we were actually SUCCESSFUL at doing so! Although we were all crazy sleepy...somehow we managed not to derp all over the place XD. Sadly, we still had a lot of work to do for Saturday costumes...so back up to the room we went for another late night.
Saturday is probably more accurately the day of death than Friday was. I woke up early to go shoot a rescheduled Friday shoot...then I was throwing up and other gross things (horray IBS T_T) so.....that didn't happen. I put myself back to bed and woke up at 3:30pm (something like that?) to everyone still in pjs (sans Teeny XD) working diligently on costumes and asking how I was<3. I was really REALLY sad to have missed such a chunk of the con and kept a lot of people waiting on me (SORRY I WAS DEAD FOR 5+ HOURS!!), but there wasn't too much I could do about that XP. The thing I don't mind about IBS tho...is once you feel sick and wait/sleep it off, in a few hours...you're back up and running and THANK GOODNESS that's what happened!! I was still not feeling 100%, but I really didn't want to miss my 8pm shoot, so I ate some wonton soup (Thank you, Bethy!!<333) and, with a happier tummy, off we went to shoot with the ever gorgeous and her amaaaazing comic heroine group! Tho we were exhausted...Teeny and Liz (who were in Kairi and Sailor Mars at this point) said they wouldn't let me end the night without cosplaying Rikku. I had had my heart SET on cosplaying Thief Rikku at Youmacon so I was REALLY glad they shut me up and shoved me into that costume! XD At midnight, I was all bikini-ed up and out we went to shoot ourselves! We stayed out till FOUR IN THE MORNING and then went up to bed feeling fulfilled and...goofy lol.
Sunday, we all packed up and changed into our Disney Fashion/Casual girls plus Danny who was the Prince Eric to my Ariel! We packed up our cars and then went to deal with the crappy hotel check out then went out to eat in Greek Town before a mini shoot...and...saying goodbye ((((((((
Over the weekend, we compiled a list of grievances (18 in total I think??) solely from our hotel experience. Nothing to do with the con. Beth, Liz, and Danny decided to handle the complaint because it was pretty INCREDIBLE that our hotel service could be so horrendous. It was REALLY unfortunate to see how con goers get treated by hotel staff. Don't get me wrong, A LOT of con goers deserve it for the way they trash rooms and behave towards the hotel, but for those of us (hopefully the majority) who treat cons as a vacation and are always respectful and clean up after themselves...the treatment we received was just awful (like only having 1 towel for over a day, not to mention the silly wristbands). We still have to follow up with a letter before we even hear if we can get any sort of reimbursement. boooo. ANYWAYS, overall we had a really great time at Youmacon, tho most parts were very bitter sweet. We ate a TON of those mini donuts they were making (SUPER YUM ^^) and it was even MORE awesome we hardly paid for food since we brought so much of our own! It was also really realllllllly nice to be together with my girlies<333 Nothing is better than getting to spend time with them, even if I'm sick or we spend the whole day in a hotel room lol. Liz, Danny, and I kinda made the dream team when it comes to photoshoots. I only used up 12 GB in memory cards the ENTIRE weekend because of how efficient we were shooting! Sadly, for the first time in 3 years since Teeny and I started TotallyToasty, paying cash at the shoot was a problem and we had a lot of cancellations (which our policy states if you cancel the day of your shoot, you're obligated to pay, tho 2 people still haven't T_T). So...we've made a big payment policy change that will hopefully solve these issues. Youmacon used to be my favorite con because of the awesome con center and really diverse range of costumes...but they're lack of organization, bizarre security policies and rules both by hotel and con staff, TERRIBAD Marriott Hotel, and Homestuck invasion has me questioning if I'll be back next year. I guess we'll see ><.
