What Have I Learned from Marc Silvestri?
https://michaelstewart.deviantart.com/ asked me this question, and as I started to respond, I realized that this would make a nice, long, painful Journal entry.  Being the sadist that I am, here is my answer:
Honestly, I'm probably the worst example of a TC guy, in a lot of ways.  A lot of the basics I've learned come from animation, painting and studying film.
So far, the most useful thing that I've learned from Marc, by far, is how to approach a blank piece of Bristol paper.  Marc is helping me close the gap between a great sketchbook and a great comic book page.
I might post some examples, but this is basically how
--the Image/TC/Wildstorm layout method
No blue pencils, no lightboxes or anything, because that stuff stiffens up your work.  The clean up is all based around using a kneaded eraser to lighten up your lines, and then tightening the final.
--using light strokes to draw "outside-in"

Hello, to whoever  may read this. I hope your day is going well and if it isn't, I hope your reactions to the bad are positive. We can't control a great many things in life but we can control our reactions to them...
Well, I'm revamping my efforts to get my sequential story art skills up to a professional level. I want art to be my full time job. I have this crazy idea that I want to be a pencil artist for DC's Green Lantern. That goal is driving me to draw in all my spare time. I keep a small sketch book in my work van and I have a Galaxy Note phone so I can draw in it if I don't have a sketchbook handy. In my younger years, it was never impressed upon me that if you want to be a professional comic book artist or, pretty much a pro at most things, you have to draw for hours EVERY DAY. You must be focused.
I heard that a great illustrator of the 40's/50's was told to draw 100 things a day for a year and then apply again to see if he was good enough by then. He did it and got the job.
I may be older but I'm on the ketogenic diet with moderate intermittent fasting. This increases mental clarity and turns you into a type-A personality, in a sense. You have the energy and drive to tackle projects with gusto.
So, I'll get back to drawing now...
Spiderman and Venom
From around 1993. A comics magazine had a contest to see who could do the best job of drawing a four-panel comic page without using words, let the art tell the story. Not sure if I ever entered but I liked some things about what I did here and wanted to archive it so, here it is.

I misspelled "regardless" in the title above. Don't know how to change it.
3-2-14: God may choose to feed us (His adopted children by the cleansing power of the blood of Christ) just enough to get by to teach us that He is our provider; just like Elijah at the brook Cherith in 1 Kings 17 and also God provided for him through a widow but provided the widow her needs in abundance. Amazing lessons there.

Currently making a real effort to intentionally hone my art skills for the craft of comic book drawing. I want to get to a professional level in quality and speed. Maybe I can be a Green Lantern penciller!!! *gulp* That thought is both exhilarating and terrifying, lol
