Item #: SCP-AML-7001-10
Codename: “Infernal Tempest”
Object Class: Keter
Threat Level: Crimson
Special Containment Procedures
SCP-AML-7001-10 cannot be contained using conventional tornado suppression methods due to its autonomous mobility, multivortex structure, and rapid adaptation to atmospheric conditions. Foundation containment efforts are limited to:
Early Warning and Evacuation:
MAD and Site-77 atmospheric surveillance teams maintain continuous radar and satellite monitoring of supercell formations in the southeastern United States. Any formation resembling an intense EF3+ multi-vortex tornado triggers Alert Protocol Zephyr-10, requiring immediate evacuation of potentially affected populated areas.Atmospheric Isolation:
Experimental dispersal via ionized particle barriers and aerial Doppler disruption has been attempted but only temporarily diverts SCP-AML-7001-10. All future engagement requires Level 5 AML authorization.Data Collection and Simulation:
Computational models attempt to predict potential paths of SCP-AML-7001-10 using historical data from the 2011 Cullman–Arab tornado, incorporating its known tendencies to seek sources of heat and energy.Civilian Awareness Management:
All media coverage of multi-vortex tornadoes in SCP-AML-7001-10’s projected range is suppressed or attributed to natural supercell activity. Amnestics are administered to witnesses showing signs of perceiving intelligence in the tornado.
Personnel are prohibited from approaching SCP-AML-7001-10 under any circumstances. Even unmanned UAVs are at risk of destruction by subvortices.
Description
SCP-AML-7001-10 is a sentient multiple-vortex tornado that originated from the 2011 Cullman–Arab, Alabama EF4 multi-vortex tornado. The anomaly became self-aware seconds before natural dissipation, immediately reconstituting its rotational structure and, where necessary, reviving its parent supercell.
Physical Characteristics
Main vortex diameter: ~500 meters
Height: 1.2 km
Sub-vortices: 2–5 simultaneously visible at the base
Maximum ground-relative winds: EF4 (210–250 mph / 340–400 km/h)
Sub-vortices can add an additional 100+ mph (160 km/h) locally
Structure is asymmetrical and highly dynamic, shifting subvortices unpredictably
SCP-AML-7001-10 exhibits behaviors typical of irregular multi-vortex tornadoes, forming, merging, or dissipating sub-vortices rapidly. These movements produce highly variable ground damage, often resulting in narrow arcs of extreme destruction adjacent to areas with little or no impact.
Despite the multivortex system, SCP-AML-7001-10 maintains cohesive decision-making, indicating awareness of surrounding geography, heat sources, and population density. Its main vortex can autonomously revive weakening convection in its parent supercell, effectively prolonging its lifespan far beyond natural parameters.
Behavior and Intelligence
SCP-AML-7001-10 displays:
Targeting of heat and energy sources, including factories, power plants, and large-scale combustion zones.
Avoidance of areas without thermal or energetic signatures unless blocked by topography.
Rapid adaptation to Doppler radar interference or active disruption efforts.
Strategic pathing to maximize destruction while maintaining vortex cohesion.
The entity has demonstrated self-preservation instincts, reconstituting subvortices in response to disruption and reforming partially dissipated supercell inflows.
It shows no empathy toward humans and actively seeks populated areas for maximum energy extraction and atmospheric manipulation.
Enemies:
Populated areas
Sources of heat and energy
Foundation personnel
Allies:
None
Origin Event – Cullman–Arab Tornado, 27–28 April 2011
During the April 27, 2011 tornado outbreak:
The Cullman–Arab EF4 tornado formed as a multi-vortex system from a typical supercell thunderstorm.
At 18:32 CDT, just prior to expected natural dissipation, the tornado displayed persistent subvortices, vertical updraft regeneration, and unusual ground-relative path correction.
Witnesses noted the tornado “lingering” longer than meteorologically expected.
Doppler analysis by Foundation retroactive review indicates that SCP-AML-7001-10 manifested sentience during the final dissipation phase, immediately preventing collapse of the main vortex and actively seeking a continued source of convective energy.
Anomalous Traits
Ability to revive or sustain its parent supercell without external atmospheric support
Directed selection of targets by heat or energy
Rapid formation, dissipation, and reformation of sub-vortices
Coordinated subvortex movement suggesting awareness of terrain and obstacles
Unlike other AML-7001-X entities, SCP-AML-7001-10 is extremely mobile and cannot currently be physically contained. All known interactions are mediated through meteorological monitoring and indirect hazard mitigation.
Incident Log 7001-10-Δ
During a Foundation attempted interception:
UAV drone deployed to drop high-density particulate dispersal within subvortex array.
SCP-AML-7001-10 reformed sub-vortices around the drone, effectively destroying it and redirecting the main vortex path 2 km eastward.
Subsequent path analysis indicated targeted movement toward local industrial plants, despite no prior meteorological cues.
AML-7001-X Classification
SCP-AML-7001-10 is a member of the AML-7001-X series:
Unlike SCP-AML-7001-6 and SCP-AML-7001-7, it actively seeks out destruction and energy sources.
Unlike SCP-AML-7001-8, it cannot currently be physically contained.
Its sentience manifests immediately prior to expected natural dissipation, a trait unique within the series.
Research Notes – Dr. Keats
“Most tornadoes vanish quietly into the ground.
Infernal Tempest… does not.
It decides where it goes, what it destroys, and how long it lives.
And right now, it knows we’re watching.”
