Dead Marshes by Toradh Dead Marshes by Toradh
A little Lord of the Rings fanart, namely Frodo in the dead marshes.

This image just popped up in my head out of nowhere when I was re-reading the respective chapter in The Two Towers, ready with colour scheme and all. I’m pretty happy with the sickly green and sickly everything. The red glow is coming from the ring. I know it shouldn’t glow brightly red. I just wanted to paint it like that. Maybe it’s something of Star Wars influence, if the good guys’ weapons glow blue, the bad guys’ weapons are supposed to glow red? I seriously don’t know and I don’t care, I just thought I’d make the ring glow because that makes for a cool colour scheme, just so you know before you jump at me for plain ignoring what’s in the book.

Or: “What’s that?” – “Red light.” – “What does it do?” – “It glows red.”

Drawing ink and some liquid watercolour on Canson hot pressed satinated paper.

This is a great illustration. Of the kind that illustrates not so much a particular scene of the story, but rather the general concepts or moods of the story.
The colour scheme looks quite dull at the first sight, but that exactly captures the sickly atmosphere of the Dead Marshes. And the red glow, sickly in a different way, is great to show the presence of the Ring and its power over Frodo. Very well done!

Thank you, that was exactly what I was aiming for! I am indeed aware that the one ring doesn't glow :,D. But it does help the mood along, just like dulled, dark brownish greens do to make the marshes look like an icky swamp. It's not the sea where you spend your holidays :P. I'm glad it worked out!

Passt!

Very convincing fog.Clap How did you do it?
To me the depth of the landcape looks like miles in the place where the fog is less dense. And Marianus is perfectly right saying that the red light makes the scene very spooky especially because the source of the light cannot be seen. It loks a bit as if it were high above to the right of the beholder, perhaps behind them. Really creepy! :) (Smile) :) (Smile)

White drawing ink on top of dirty greyish-green watercolour/ink. The brands I used/mixed were Rohrer&Klinger moss green liquid watercolour+black R&K drawink ink and white R&K drawing ink.

Frodo holds tight the source of light. I was thinking about insertig the ring somewhere, but it's too small to be seen within the hands even of a hobbit here, and that's the end of it.
