Interesting fact about Seraglio culture in the medieval period - Harem girls developed a unique martial art that would allow them to physically compete in decisive combat that would nonetheless leave no marks on the contestants' bodies. While we are familiar with the so-called "dance of the seven veils", it was paralleled by a similar veil-structure denoting fighting prowess and Harem status.
