Long before I learned of the existence of Japanese sumo, especially female sumo, I witnessed an inimitable impromptu women's wrestling match between my then girlfriend and my future wife. Both wrestlers were big, curvy women, and their match could easily have been mistaken for a sumo match.

It happened long ago when my girlfriend and I had a vacation at a resort on the shore of a large reservoir on the Volga River.
I'd like to make a brief digression here. Nowadays, being a little overweight is not appreciated for women, but a generation or two ago, such women were considered healthy and very popular among men, unless they had clusters of fat wrinkles. A faintly stout pretty woman even had an advantage over a slim one.
My girlfriend Alla was one of those curvy types. (We broke up with her a long time ago, so I'm
