Second Chances
You can't find the needle in the haystack,
Cause the needle's right there in your arm.
You can't see the forest through the trees,
Cause you're lost, and you gave away the farm,
The road you're on is a crooked one;
No one said the road would be straight.
It goes off in different directions,
So nothing has sealed your fate.
He told us we'd never be given,
More than we can resist.
So send the devil off to hell;
Raise your arm and make a fist.
Believe that you were made special,
You were made perfect in God's eyes.
Believe that he gave you the power,
To be strong, to be faithful and wise.
Today is a brand new day;
Second chances are what it's about.
Stand up, today is a new day;
Stand up and holler and shout.
The road you're on is a crooked one;
No one said the road would be straight.
It goes off in different directions,
So nothing has sealed your fate.
He told us we'd never be given,
More than we can resist.
So send the devil off to hell;
Raise your arm and make a fist.

Enduring Denial
How very rare
that a single thought
can turn resignation
into savior faire.
Yet take care,
the path is fraught
with equal opportunity
for bitter despair.
May you dare
and buy a lot
amidst losing odds
to set the air.
Placed with care
the stage is caught
primed for plaisance,
ripe to share.
On the Cusp of Revival
There's a knot in my chest where my heart's supposed to be – It takes up all the room in my soul where You are supposed to be I've said it every day of my life but I Am sorry. The sun scars crop circles against the backs of my lids, All I can see are angles and shapes, The anatomy of the stars between The fingers of my best friend, A perfect golden ratio Where they clasp against my bent fingers. Music hums gently as a heartbeat, The only thing I can hear (That and the tinnitus – It gets louder everyday) The summer sun blazes away the memory Of a springtime spent indoors – I didn't pick enough flowers, I mourn As sweat gathers beneath my burning lids, Cracking my tender skin like the dry dirt (Maybe this time the weeds will grow again From out of the fault lines of an angry earth) I don't seem to know what to do with myself Except lie in wait to wake From the dreams that tangle me up with memories – Every night and every day they grow sharper, More willing to pull me back under, An
Pillars of Persistence
How easy it is,
and easier it is becoming still,
in a world such as ours,
of strobe light attention spans
and wireless connections,
to submit to the waves of each passing day,
wayward and content,
unchallenged and untested,
yet, all the same, full of anxieties
that leave us horribly overwhelmed.
The greatest hope on which we can rely
is the one not stumbled upon,
as if the meeting of endless random variables,
but cultivated by discipline
of a concerted effort,
shaped by the hands
of those unrelenting and undeterred.
It is a hope torn from the mire of despair and defeatism
to be lifted far above the limits of possibility,
to be viewed as a be

The Regressive Double Standard on Criticism
"No idea is above scrutiny; no idea whatsoever. To criticize, to scrutinize, and to satirize my own religion is not Islamophobia."
Maajid Nawaz
Whether you like it or not, criticism is a part of everyday life. Whenever someone produces literature, art, music, film, TV, video games, comic books, fashion, architecture, economic theories, technology, or cuisine, you can guarantee that there will be consumers and professional critics who will test them out to gauge their quality, originality, and the message it may or may not convey. When they observe that there are notable flaws in an idea or product, they will point out these flaws
dear self,
1.
tomorrow is not worth waiting for.
sure, there will be sunshine (with
a slight chance of rain) and sure,
some kid will be smiling, and yes,
life is still
moving
on,
but it's not like anyone cares.
2.
you just want someone to love you,
misery and tears and all. maybe you
could spend saturdays curled up
under the covers, memorizing
the patterns of breathing. maybe
you could count the seconds but
the problem is that there would never
be enough, the problem is that
there's nothing there to love.
3.
no one is listening.
4.
i'd write you a letter, but
you'd never read it. i'm stuck
screaming into my own heart,
wonderin
confessions of lostwithoutyou.
i'm not a liar. but i never told you that you always looked best in black. i liked how your skin would fade to a paler shade of perfection and your perfect teeth would glint a little brighter. and i could pretend for an evening that you were my black and white dream come true. and with you there would be no shades of inbetweens and no grays for us to get lost in. i never told you but it's true.

i was never able to tell you, but i hate the way you cook your 'specialty' eggs. you always laughed over your shoulder and told me that they are the best food ill ever eat, that i was blessed to get the chance to taste them melt
paint.
i told you that i liked boys who smoked cigarettes,
because then i knew that they needed something.
i told you that i liked roses without the thorns,
because then they wouldnt hurt so much when they got picked.
i told you that i liked it when you held my hands
because i didnt feel quite so lonely, not quite.
i told you that i'd love you 'til the stars exploded
and the clouds devoured us- and you said nothing.
you said nothing.

(here's a little history.)
in vietnam people hurt other people.
people burned themselves-
(i wish i was that brave.)
they threw chemicals and hid in the ground
and laughed when the others cried.

Just a Memory
Believe
Be free
Make sure that you’ll be
Happy
I held your hand in mine
I pushed you to try
Even when you were the most upset
You never gave up
You are incredible
I saw the best in you when you were at your worst
I know you can do it even when it hurts
I gave you words and I pushed you to speak
I watched your progress growing every week.
Now I’m gone but I know you’re alright
Now I’m gone but I know you can fight
I know you can do anything you try
I know you will spread your wings and fly
Take on the world
You’ll rule the world
Amaze the world (x2)
I’m in the past
Stand on your own feet tall
Lost
Lost
From myself
Don’t know how I
Feel
Is this real
None of this makes sense
In this stress
Drowning in the same old lines I’ve said before
I wanna know if I can feel
I wanna know if I can want
Lost
From my mind
Don’t know what I think
Though the paper’s bleeding ink
These words
Don’t portray inside
Cause I’ll hide from shelter
I wanna know just how you feel
I wanna know just what you want
We’re
Wasting away
Thoughts decay
Life’s just
A delay

Vampire Nights
Laying in the dark cold of night
Waiting for my kind to join me here
Waiting for my time to take flight
And drink the sweet red blood laced with fear
My vampire nights are filled with horror
The kind that sends shivers through your body
Ripping flesh drinking blood, making love
Reaching out through your fears so strong so boldly
Wanting to embrace every sense every feeling
Seducing you with my beauty of the night
Pale white skin and eyes of fire
Breasts against your body as I'm holding you tight
I draw your minds so easy with desire
The human mind is such a fool for lust
Wanting all that sets your groin on fire
With my beauty u
