Over the years, I've discovered a lot of awesome music that I never would have found on my own through recommendations from friends. For finding new, fun stuff to listen to, nothing beats trading mix CDs with other people. And mix CDs are one of those gifts that it's just as fun to give as to receive--from picking the tracks, to arranging them in the perfect order, to designing an epic label for an epic mix, it's at least as much art project as piracy.

The Project
I started MusicXchange as a fun way to trade music with people across the country. Currently it's only open to U.S. residents, but if there's enough interest, I'll open up some international exchanges, too.

How It Works
Ten people are chosen randomly for each round. When you're picked, you assemble your mix CD, make 9 copies, and mail them to the organizer. The organizer collects all the CDs, divides them up, and mails them out. You get a box in the mail containing 9 brand-new mix CDs for your listening pleasure!

If this sounds like fun, please join in! Sign-ups for the first round are open now!

I've started #MusicXchange in the hopes that other people out there share my love of making and trading mix CDs. Anyone want to play?

Look, I know I'm technically a mom and all, but I'm still young and hip, I promise!

Okay, as hip as I ever was.

Which is not much.
