Uncanny X-Men 141 cover REtRedd

So for my 600th piece I’ve posted here, and my 66th cover REtRedd….we get a classic. The original by Byrne and Austin is still one of the most striking covers of their X run, and maybe of the entire 80s. The fact that the innards were even cooler than the cover, make this a landmark issue.

I did a cover recreation of this years ago and it wasn’t what I was looking for and I wanted to do one a little truer to the original. Tough to hide my style in a piece like this and I just can’t draw like Byrne…his Logan looked like a caged animal in the original that I just can’t duplicate.

I never liked Kitty Pryde all dresses up in the original and think it is better with her being in her Mutant jumpsuit. So that’s how I drew her.

Always like to out my own spins on these pieces no matter how classic I think they are. It’s a privilege to be able to draw and have fun with a piece all at the same time, so that’s what I do.
