What Are Totems?
Totems are collectible prizes which provide powerful bonuses throughout the game. Each totem has its own task(s) which must be completed to unlock their bonus, which is not bound to a single Tokota (unlike tack and companions.) The current 30 Totems are spread over 10 departments with widely varying effects. Only 10 may be active at any time, so choose wisely. Check out the sections below to learn more!
How do Totems Work?
Players use the Totem Settings screen on Tokotna to build their Totem Pole. Once saved, the pole may only be edited once a month. The edit window depends on which of the following two settings have been chosen:
Totems will be completely reset at the end of the month. With this setting, the pole may be adjusted 1 time at any point in the month, but no totem bonuses will be applied until the new pole settings are saved.
Totems will not be wiped at the end of the month; your current choices will be maintained into the next month. This setting allows for the bonuses to be adjusted 1 time during close. Once saved or the group re-opens, totems are locked and cannot be edited.
How do I Unlock Totems?
Each Totem has unique requirements which must be met in order to unlock the totem for use. Players are responsible for tracking their own proof of attaining these goals. Once the requirements for the desired totem have been met, the proofs should be posted in the Totem Unlock thread on the Account Management journal.
Please note that these requirements must all be fulfilled after the release date February 4th 2019 and retroactive proofs will not be accepted. The only exception to this rule is the Dog Totem, which is accessible to anyone who has already reached TCA Academy Level 5.
For an example of a Totem Tracker, as well as what types of proof will be needed for certain Totems, please check >here<.

We started back in May of 2019 asking people via the News to stop deleting stashes because we could not verify any dates or details such as corrections without the Stash. When Totems opened up in Feb of 2019 the rule was in place from the start that you couldn't use designs from before February. Despite this multiple people have attempted to use Designs that have gone through corrections and were posted before February. As we cannot verify that any design with a deleted stash is following the rules and we asked people to stop deleting stashes for the last 8 months to alleviate the problem, we finally had to hard change the rule to disallow it. Totems already take a very long time to verify especially all the DC Totems and it's extremely frustrating for the admins who cannot verify any of the details to make sure that every player is following the rules.
With the cat totem, since companions can no longer be added directly via DC because we can do it on tokotna, how do we link a proof that it was added as the design was accepted? ^^ or is that like, an exception to the "please add things yourself via the site" rule?
However, on the companion site, I have been watching since yesterday (30 Sep 2019) and it has not let me change my totems. It is also saying it's ALREADY locked for October 2019. but it's only the first and the group only closed yeterday.
If we say I want the owl, does that mean, that in one month I have to "Completing 10 of each RoM Trait, build of the tokota doesn’t matter. Traits with the same bonus are counted as the same trait." in order to get the totem?
1. For the Hyena Totem, say my tokota has mediator, and one of my tribemate's tokotas has the tribe companion with the taming bonus applied (it requires two other tribemates to be depicted for another -50, I think?)
Because of the companion, my tokota with mediator is technically being 'used' in the taming attempt. May that count toward the totem, or does it have to be the trait itself on the tokota being used?
Rites of Fertility Totems Questions:
1. Say I am doing AoAs for three of my tokotas in one image. Will that count for three of the 'completing 10 of each RoM trait'?
2. Additionally, say I earn an excellent score by putting bonuses/effort into those images. Will the excellent double up and count towards the Ram totem as well?
