Totems and Totem Building

Journal Entry: Tue Aug 11, 2015, 8:31 PM

"Hi friend! Beta Boon, here! This revamp of the Totems is currently in a Beta Trial period. That means anything is subject to change after an observation period. Hold onto your hats, here we go!

Boon 11072 by TotemSpirit

What Are Totems?

Totems are collectible prizes which provide powerful bonuses throughout the game. Each totem has its own task(s) which must be completed to unlock their bonus, which is not bound to a single Tokota (unlike tack and companions.) The current 30 Totems are spread over 10 departments with widely varying effects. Only 10 may be active at any time, so choose wisely. Check out the sections below to learn more!

How do Totems Work?

Players use the Totem Settings screen on Tokotna to build their Totem Pole. Once saved, the pole may only be edited once a month. The edit window depends on which of the following two settings have been chosen:

Reset:
Totems will be completely reset at the end of the month. With this setting, the pole may be adjusted 1 time at any point in the month, but no totem bonuses will be applied until the new pole settings are saved.

Persistent:
Totems will not be wiped at the end of the month; your current choices will be maintained into the next month. This setting allows for the bonuses to be adjusted 1 time during close. Once saved or the group re-opens, totems are locked and cannot be edited.

How do I Unlock Totems?

Each Totem has unique requirements which must be met in order to unlock the totem for use. Players are responsible for tracking their own proof of attaining these goals. Once the requirements for the desired totem have been met, the proofs should be posted in the Totem Unlock thread on the Account Management journal.

Please note that these requirements must all be fulfilled after the release date February 4th 2019 and retroactive proofs will not be accepted. The only exception to this rule is the Dog Totem, which is accessible to anyone who has already reached TCA Academy Level 5.

For an example of a Totem Tracker, as well as what types of proof will be needed for certain Totems, please check >here<.

HORSE
Bonus: You may have 2 tokotas in a single Continuous Events entry without collaborating the submission.

Does that mean that when we collab with someone and for exemple I got the Horse Totem, I can make two Tokos on the CE and my collab partner one, so that 3 are on the picture?

:iconfurreon:
Furreon Featured By Owner Feb 8, 2020  Hobbyist Digital Artist
No, the horse totem basically only takes the place of the collaborator and allows you to include 2 of your own tokotas instead. Whether or not you are using the totem you can only ever have 2 tokotas participating in a single CE image (the only exception being the Teamwork category if you collab, then both collaborators must have 2 tokos per in the image). The horse totem doesn't apply to the Teamwork category CEs at all. From the CE journal: "Entries are limited to 1 tokota (or team) per entry, with the exception of collaborations for a maximum of 2 tokotas (or teams). This applies across all event types and classes."

Dumb question:
For the Rat totem, is the teamwork results count as one or two entries for the Teamwork section?

Is it true that for the lioness totem we have to keep all the stash files for them?
Cause I only have 6 out of the 24 I've submitted to the DC for this totem.

It is.
We started back in May of 2019 asking people via the News to stop deleting stashes because we could not verify any dates or details such as corrections without the Stash. When Totems opened up in Feb of 2019 the rule was in place from the start that you couldn't use designs from before February. Despite this multiple people have attempted to use Designs that have gone through corrections and were posted before February. As we cannot verify that any design with a deleted stash is following the rules and we asked people to stop deleting stashes for the last 8 months to alleviate the problem, we finally had to hard change the rule to disallow it. Totems already take a very long time to verify especially all the DC Totems and it's extremely frustrating for the admins who cannot verify any of the details to make sure that every player is following the rules.

Another question
So for the Hyena totem can you get HP from AoAs or is that a no go? And do raffle tamings count?
Reply
:iconfurreon:
Furreon Featured By Owner Oct 23, 2019  Hobbyist Digital Artist
If you're working on the Hyena totem, all HP prior to reaching dominant must come only from taming attempts. That means, no, AoAs cannot be included in the HP that you wish to unlock the Hyena totem with. You can, however, put the HP gained from AoA's and other non-taming attempt HP into the Dominant-Alpha section of your HP tracker, and leave the Average-Dominant section free to be filled with only taming attempt HP. Here's one of my Hyena totem tokos' tracker as an example: Laventeli 40507 - Tracker She was one of the tokos I used to unlock the Hyena totem. As you can see all her Avg-Dom HP is only from taming attemps (you can include HP boosters in those attempt images if you want, so it takes less images/time to reach the HP needed for dom + Hyena!) and her AoA's and other HP are in the Dominant-Alpha section and onwards.

In short: You can have non-taming attempt HP on a Hyena totem toko, you will just need to put that HP into the Dominant-Alpha section of your HP tracker!

Raffle tamings count if the rules state that they count as "taming attempts". The current Tokoween raffle wilds do count, as the rules say that each raffle entry counts as one taming attempt.

.. HECK you're right. I must've been half asleep when I wrote that omg. I'm so sorry, you're absolutely correct, they shouldn't be able to count towards Hyena totem! They can count towards the TCA rank requirement "tamings" though! And any autofailed proper taming attempts also count towards Hyena. My bad on that false info x'D

One of our admins created this handy collection of all previous journals - Tokotas Previous Journals Log (updated Aug'19)
Any that aren't there, there should be a link at the bottom of the current journal to the previous one & should be there on every one

Oop here is me again with another question I'm so sorry XD

With the cat totem, since companions can no longer be added directly via DC because we can do it on tokotna, how do we link a proof that it was added as the design was accepted? ^^ or is that like, an exception to the "please add things yourself via the site" rule? :)

You would link the sta.sh import that DC accepted.

That...doesn't answer the question really ^^;

The example there was added back when DC still accepted tack and companion imports via the Soul Pool thread, however since some months ago, (proof when I tried to add a wolverine to a tokota here: sta.sh/comments/61/19t28wb6ld2… via the SP thread) DC no longer allows you to add companions because they tell you to add them yourself via the site.

Therefore, I'm asking how do I now go about prooving I added the cat companion BEFORE anything else, as is required by the totem?

Sorry for the confusion! All you have to do now is link your tokota’s Tokotna account. At the bottom of the tokota’s profile it has a log of everything added, removed, and dates of status changes. This log will have the date your cat companion was added and will be the proof needed for the totem

I'm having an issue with my totems.  On the site and in this journal it says that if we have the Persistent Totem setting, we are able to change our totems ONCE during close.

However, on the companion site, I have been watching since yesterday (30 Sep 2019) and it has not let me change my totems.  It is also saying it's ALREADY locked for October 2019.  :( but it's only the first and the group only closed yeterday.

For the ones the proofs for stuff like the Lioness with Designs, or Ram for the AoAs, what do we link as the proofs?

Do we link the admin comment that says "accepted" on the sta.sh file (for designs) or do we link the comment on the actual DC thread?

For the rites, do we link the admin comment/original thread where we posted the AoAs or do we just link to the Tokotna profiles since they're dated with the AoA badges?

Was hoping there'd be an example journal up like with most of the other things but there doesn't seem to be one for Totems despite there being a line at the bottom like there should be one and it just isn't added yet? ^^;

For the Hyena totem, are we able to hp stack the images as long as they fit the taming requirements?  Like, I could add in a bonds superstar tribemate and affiliated species? Is it possible to run a Wild heart and a Mediator in the same image to count toward the totem?

If we say I want the owl, does that mean, that in one month I have to "
Completing 10 of each RoM Trait, build of the tokota doesn’t matter. Traits with the same bonus are counted as the same trait." in order to get the totem?

Taming Totems Question:
1. For the Hyena Totem, say my tokota has mediator, and one of my tribemate's tokotas has the tribe companion with the taming bonus applied (it requires two other tribemates to be depicted for another -50, I think?)

Because of the companion, my tokota with mediator is technically being 'used' in the taming attempt. May that count toward the totem, or does it have to be the trait itself on the tokota being used?

Rites of Fertility Totems Questions:
1. Say I am doing AoAs for three of my tokotas in one image. Will that count for three of the 'completing 10 of each RoM trait'?

2. Additionally, say I earn an excellent score by putting bonuses/effort into those images. Will the excellent double up and count towards the Ram totem as well?

For the Rite of Fertility questions, every tokota that earns their AoAs can count towards the 10 of each trait, whether you've got one toko or three in the set. And if any of those are excellent they can count towards the ram totem. c:

So for the rat, with the requirement of "competing in the eight CE sections six times each"...does that mean six Teamwork entries (making twelve individual toko entries, since each image counts as two against your monthly limit) or can we knock that one out in three? I know that it's a weirdly specific question, haha, but I appreciate any insight admins can offer!

I love these new totems! The art is gorgeous. I've already picked out which ones I want to work towards and made a stash file to track my progress towards them, but I have a question.

A couple months ago I posted a design to Soul Pool DC, but it needed corrections and I haven't got back to it yet. If I correct it and post it to the correction thread when DC opens again, will that count towards my 'passed designs' for the Lioness Totem, or would it not count because it was originally posted before 4th Feb?
