Physical Traits

Journal Entry: Thu Sep 10, 2015, 11:59 AM

Physical traits are hereditary, and affect a tokota's appearance. They can be expressed, or hidden (carried) on all builds and mane types. Akotas cannot express physical traits, they can only carry them. All traits have a 10% chance of passing to offspring, and a 30% chance if both parents carry it. You currently need to list Physical Traits in breeding requests in order for them to be applied in the breeding.

*Akotas cannot express physical traits, but they can still carry them genetically and have them rolled in breedings.

Breeding For Physical Traits:

  • Oddball Trait increases the chance of inheriting physical traits
  • Oddball II Trait (Unlocked with an Elemental Heart) significantly increases the chance of inheriting physical traits
  • Pug Companion provides a +3 chance to pass down a physical trait

Bob Tail

Applies to Normal, Toki and Dire builds and all mane types. *Akotas cannot express physical traits.
*Bobtails can be edited with a small item to create a completely tailless tokota. The geno/tokota must have the Bob Tail physical trait.

Curled Tail

Applies to Normal, Toki and Dire builds and all mane types. *Akotas cannot express physical traits.

Cheek Fur

Applies only to Normal, Toki and Dire builds with Sphinx mane types. *Akotas cannot express physical traits.

Roman Nose

Applies to Normal, Toki and Dire builds and all mane types. *Akotas cannot express physical traits.
:new:

Fangs

Applies to Normal, Toki and Dire builds and all mane types. *Akotas cannot express physical traits.

Tusks

Applies to Normal, Toki and Dire builds and all mane types. *Akotas cannot express physical traits. Technically, tusks are natural to them so it does not count as a physical trait!
:new:

Small Ears

Applies to Normal, Toki and Dire builds and all mane types. *Akotas cannot express physical traits.

Floppy Ears

Applies to Normal, Toki and Dire builds and all mane types. *Akotas cannot express physical traits.
:new:

Rose Ears

Applies to Normal, Toki and Dire builds and all mane types. *Akotas cannot express physical traits.

FAQ

If my tokota has a physical trait, does it have to express it in the import design?

No, you may choose to have your tokota "Carry" the trait (not show it,) but you cannot get rid of a physical trait from a geno.

Can I add a physical trait to an already-uploaded Tokota?

Yes! Uploaded tokota can get physical traits added with Soul Pool Water just as a geno can. This can be done in the appropriate section of the Design Central journal.

Can I modify the lineart of a physical trait, such as making Floppy or Rose ears display differently/point in different directions?

Yes, but a small item is required to change the line-art.
*If you want to express, for example, only one flop or one rose ear, and one normal ear, then an item is not required unless you are altering the physical trait or normal ear line-art for either ear.

I can't find ___ Trait for Razormane!

Razors primarily share physical traits with Shortmane tokotas. Their butt fluff is not as long as Natural Manes, but are not bare like Sphinxes. Some physical traits may need to be slightly edited to fit perfectly, until all physical traits are finished for the Razormane line-art.

Hi there! There is a band up on the top of the ears, showing they're attached to a headband c: They aren't the Tokotas real ears!

HOLY HECK! I am doing his AoAs right now and I JUST NOW realized that this is a head band (thanks to you) xD I was wondering what that little brown dot on his head was *lol*

Can we add Tusks to genos with SPW or are they a special case that can only be bred? ^^

Yes, you can use SPW to add tusks. Tusks and other physical traits can be added to tokota when desing goes to Desing Central getting looked over. :3

A geno I'm interested in has a Mother with rose ears (the father has normal ears)

It doesn't specifically say in the geno that the prospective tokota has it. This means it only carries it correct? Or could I still show physical rose ears.?

It should list in the geno if your tokota has the rose ears c: Here is an example below.

In this case you can see that the rose ears did pass from the parents to the pup. You can decide to have the rose ears on the import or give your tokota the normal ears when designing. If you give your tokota the normal ears then they only 'carry' the gene and do not 'express' it ^^
3) Male, Natural Mane
Average - Healthy

Physical Traits:
Rose Ears

In this case you can see that this tokota was born with no physical traits. This tokota has to be designed with the normal ears and cannot pass rose ears onto its pups because it does not have them.

If you want your tokota to have a certain physical trait you do not just have to breed for it. If you find Soul Pool Water in Activities or buy it from the Trading Post, you can apply any physical trait to your tokota pup before it is uploaded officially ^^

Does the Soul Pool water, only apply for the traits listed above or can you use it to also change the Tokota's mane?

You cannot change a tokota's mane ;u; SPW is only for physical traits.
This comment is a more 'up to date' list of traits than listed on the journal; comments.deviantart.com/1/5594… (with warg tusks being the exception as they're available to public now)

There isn't a special version for submissive, but you can rotate the average version to line up with the submissive pose ^^

Can you have a tokota carry physical traits, rather than show them? Including traits added with a SPW? I've seen that a few times on tokos, but I wanted to clarify it with an admin before I go ahead and do something like that. =)

Thank you for the quick response! On a similar note, could a geno have more than one type of trait for the same thing, so long as they're carried? Such as rose ears showing, but they carry floppy ears and small ears? Or no, you can only have one trait for each thing, and choose for it to show or carry?

Since traits can be carried, can a tokota have flopped/rose ears, but only one is affected, or can something like that be done with an item (I know irl injury can cause it, as well as genetics)? I was thinking of maybe doing a rough collie themed tokota, and its common in the breed. ^^

some references:
qph.ec.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-…

injuries can easily damage the cartilage or muscles of the ear, causing anything from a slight crumple, to a partial flop, to a full flop.

I'm not an admin, so I can't say this for sure, but I think you can achieve the one floppy ear with a large item.

Sun 29730 by TotemSpirit

This gal has only one floppy ear and she also has a large item - and it doesn't seem like she has the item applied anywhere else. So I'd say you can have a toko with one floppy ear, but maybe asking the owner of this tokota is your best shot. c:
